Went to the Japshow at Santa Pod today. Other than our cars, there was not much old stuff there that I saw apart from some 240Z's a pretty quick Skoda, early RX7's and some older Japanese hot hatches. There was a bike engined Mini which ran a mid 11 though
My mate Dave was there with his '76 Datsun 160B with CA18DET power but was having trouble getting it to run right and his boost controller would function properly so we had to disconnect it. Another mate brought his freshly built Bedford Rascal pickup with an 1100cc Kawasaki bike engine in it. The Bedford sounded awsome and came off the line well hard on the strip but was way too undergeared and was flat out in top little after the 8th mile mark! It still ran a 15.1 so there's a lot more to come from that yet when he gets the gearing right.
I took my 510 and only got three runs in after spending nearly all day queing for signing on etc (the organisation was a shambles) I'm now running a welded diff and I've shed 37.5kg off the car so I expected a little improvement and got it. All three runs were in the 14's with the last one a best of 14.40...well chuffed to say the least. That would have been quick enough to smoke a stock R32 Skyline GTR so I'm more than pleased with that from a non turbo 33 year old Datsun ;D ;D As my 60ft time isn't hugely improved, I reckon the quicker time came from the wieght loss more than anything so as I have a fair bit of weight to shed of it yet I think I can still do better, plus if I fit the header and a new exhaust I might see a wee bit more power. I was also running on 14" rims which means hitting 4th just shy of the line. With my 15's I can do the run in 3rd which gains about a tenth too so I think a 14.1 could be possible. I'd be mega happy if I can pull that one off!
Met up with Stuizz there too. Top bloke and his Mits is well nice Stu, I had a though later about engines....how about a Nissan VG30E ...3.0L V6? They are economical, compact and in stock 300ZX guise give 178bhp and loads of torque. Exhaust and intake would take to to 190bhp and top 200ft/lb I should think. You'd proably see about 35mpg out of one too on a run...just an idea
