Of whether a car can stay in the for sale room?
Theres a mid 90s vento and a mid 90s porsche which are allowed to stay in the room, but my mid 90s jag has been moved into the "not interesting but older than 2000" section
All 3 are unmodified/uninteresting but my car is moved and the other 2 are allowed to stay. Can a mod clear up the rules. I am trying to sell this car, so I hoped this might get some interest on here and now its been moved out the way.
I don't get why mine is moved and 2 similar cars stay.

In all likelihood, probably because yours was spotted and the other two haven't been yet.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Using the official rubbish flowchart: The Vento stays on age grounds. The Jag gets moved because it's unmodified and 'just' another budget Jag. Great value and a great car, but the cheap Jag is a common phenomenon and a mainstay of budget nearly-retro motoring. Pretty much what the NPIBOT2 section is for. The Porsches (neither of which are stock, incedentally) have been the subject of debate within the moderating team. I'm sure they'd be more suited to somewhere like Pistonheads, but the owners thought they'd try and sell them on RR. I guess they know why. Personally, I don't think they're really RR cars but I'm not happy to perpetuate that concept that the RR scene is somehow limited to a sub-£5000 price tag. I'm also not quite comfortable with moving a £5000+ Porsche into what is essentially the section for people to buy and sell old(ish) run-of-the-mill(ish) daily drivers. All the cars you mentioned are borderline examples, sadly yours fell on the wrong side. With the greatest of respect, and with an understanding of why you asked your question...it's still a FREE ad...you can't really complain too much. I just sold my own (borderline) car in the same section and plenty of others have too. By the way, the Jag looks lovely. I'd be tempted to make an exception for it but then I'd have a load of aggressive uncapitalised txtspk PMs from tatty E36, Discovery, Mondeo and Vectra owners asking why theirs has been moved and yours hasn't.

A question for RRers:
Where should the Porsches go? Main section or NPIBOT2?

Maybe there should also be a max price - say £5000 although much lower (£3500) is probably more applicable to most "retro" cars after looking at what is already being offered for sale ?

A maximum price for one section? All sections?
Whilst many of us RRers are all about keeping things budget-friendly, I don't think that should be the only way. The £100K+ Interceptor being a recent example...that's definitely within the RR ethos.
The trouble with the Porsches being that they don't warrant being in amongst the Vectras and workhorse 4x4s, but don't really suit the main section either....not due to value, but due to their mainstream (exotica) nature. If they were pre-95 there'd be no issue at all.
Realistically, age related subsections is the potential solution. (pre-70, 80-90, 90-95, 95-2000).

If you limit "retro cars" to a maximum price, that's basically saying that at the end of the day we are all tight/poor and are not interested in expensive cars. The attitude of retro rides should be that we enjoy the cars we do, regardless of price. A cheap car is certainly easier to fall in love with, but there are definitely people out there, and hopefully on this forum, who absolutely adore their particular car and wouldn't swap it for a brand new Lamborghini, despite the fact that it's an 850cc Mini or a Leyland Marina coupe or whatever it may be.

To answer your question, don't change a thing. If the Porsches don't sell we still get the pleasure of looking at them the same way we can look at exotica in the General section. For me unless its defo retro it goes in the NPIBOT2 section. Why not rename it "NPIBOT2" then there is no problem with people complaining that there car is too interesting for the section. ;D

Ok lets not have an upper price limit. But then why have an age limit ? After all there are modern / new cars that can be considered by some as "retro" - Fiat 500, BMW Mini, VW Beetle etc. Personally they don't come within my definition of retro but neither does a Vectra of any age, or value whereas a Jag does. See what I mean - people are all different and see thing in different ways. I try to be open minded and not comment about some of the things that I think are horrendous as I accept that is just my opinion. The original posters question was why his car was classed a different to another make of the same year. This is where there are rules to be able to give an answer. My suggestion about value was a quick and dirty opinion that I now withdraw as I accept not appropriate.

I think the problem here is outliers, and the inability of (many) people to tell the difference between different cars.
We've gone from not needing rules (when we had a small membership and everybody knew exactly what RR was about) to having fixed cut offs and (rubbish) flow charts. Sadly it's the hoards of similarly aged boring rubbish owned by whinging idiots that mean the occasional nice Jag ends up in 'the other section'.

Things drop off the boards if they don't suit because no one posts on them. Age sections would make it harder to browse I think. I literally click on a for sale link just based on Make + Model + Price, There's no science!

Personally, I would have put the Porkers in the NPIBOT2 section because that's what they are if you're sticking to the rules with no exceptions. Price doesn't matter, really. That's just my humble opinion That Jag is lovely, by the way. A lot of potential right there.

I guess we all have different opinions of whats retro and whats not. Whereas vectras and mondeos are run of the mill cars, I do like to think that the Jag is a bit retro and is a bit different from the usual family run arounds. But I understand, if the mods allow too many standardish 90s cars in the for sale room, they will get a load of hassle from the vectra/mondeo type owners.
Thanks for all the nice comments on the Jag, it is indeed a lovely car, and I just wish work would pick up so I don't have to sell it.

Cars are cars and most of us are interested in all of them - new, old, expensive, cheap - it doesn't matter. Many on here who drive a Retro don't necessarily do so daily and have more modern fodder for that purpose and are therefore possibly interested in newer stuff for sale too. Trying to 'pigeonhole' cars is always going to cause problems / upset. Other forums, if they categorise cars for sale usually do so by make and that seems to work. At least the Jag is now getting some attention

I think the FS boards are fine as they are.
I'd prob keep the jag in the normal retro FS board, just because its such a clean, sensibly engined and "right looking". That makes it interesting.
