I'm sure you will have heard of the Michellotti Shellette based on the fiat 850. This in itself is an incredibly rare car and one that I would very very much like to own. Michellotti also produced a few Shellette's with DAF underpinnings and until very recently only one was thought to have survived. Externally it differs from the Fiat by having a longer wheelbase, different rear lights and quad headlamps. Under the skin the 4 cylinder rear engine, loses two cylinders and moves to the front of the car.
This is a fiat shellette one of 80 originally produced.
This one was untill earlier this week the only known surving DAF Shellette and is stored in the Dutch DAF museum.
A week or so ago a restorer in the USA came onto the daf club of america forum reporting that they had been tasked with the restoration of a DAF shellette, those of us on the forum were somewhat suspiscous but it has now been confirmed that the car is the genuine item and has been imported to the USA from Italy stored for 20 years or so and now is to be restored. Naturally the restorer was unable to find any technical specs or information on the car but with the help of the DAF museum and the DCA they now have this information. As such the restoration is to be documented as it progresses on the DCA forum. I will copy each update across to here if people are interested in following the restoration of this incredibly rare car.
The following photos are the car as presented to the restorers
It looks remarkably clean and tidy and has less traveled less than 10000 miles from new
