The windscreen's not really the problem, as said I'm getting a sample made for testing and certification. The problem is the side and rear glass as no tools exsist. I can just about stomach the £600 for the front screen (you need 5 samples) but no one's going to have tooling made for the rest.
Who on here has sorted out side glass on a hardtop car for the IVA? Would love to know how, and how much?
I'm fine with a Q plate, liking the Q for quality.

I'm obviously being thick here (but I'm from classic/restoration side, not custom side), but what's the issue with glass? Is it because you're going to use the Subaru reg rather than the Viva one, and the newer reg has different requirements for glass standard? I was looking at the photos trying to see why you couldn't just use standard Firenza glass.
ETA: I know of someone who was looking into having new rear screens made, with micro-wire heating element. Didn't go any further because of the price, but he might have contacts and/or already done some of the work.

Your not being thick trust me, the iva manual isn't exactly a light read. I will be using the Firenze glass, but under a full Iva the glass needs to be E marked (there was a waiver to allow BS marked glass, but this had stupidly been rescinded). This is the only reason why people would fall foal of all these new EU lead rules as the rest can be sorted (especially if like me your car is based on a modern) (the firenza glass is BS marked and 'safe' but E marking is the rule). If others out there have found a work around (that doesn't involve remortgaging my house and selling my wife's body) please PM me. People state the obvious IVA question on build threads, but I spotted just one Q plate at the last custom show I attended.
ETA: and there were a lot of monocoque cars at that show that had been partially space framed at the front ("modified monocoque", and therefore a fail on the IVA avoidance points system)

For those who want further info about the rules I've found this on the Ace site - www.the-ace.org.uk/iva-9-0-new-manual-and-glass-revisions/Right PIA and will stop a lot of builds being legal ! I wonder if it'd be possible to first register in another EU country (S Ireland ?) and then register as an import into the UK ? Paul H

I assumed you were in the know as you'de done a few Was genuinely interested as the poster said they had done a few so thought that they must have got over that hurdle.

Yeah likewise, not a dig at you either. In fact how you meant it is pretty much irrelevant. Just frustrates me how we've lost quite a few pleasant knowledgeable folks over this when there is no need. There has always been a tightrope walk involved when it comes to educating people about doing things properly vs. upsetting them and sending them packing.
Personally whilst it's important to be legal and do things right I enjoy reading about these builds so much I could care less how they deal with it, it's up to the individual involved to keep their house in order and protect themselves from any repercussions - hopefully without denying the rest of us a glimpse into what is going on.

Gents, I've not gone....just been on holiday from customs enjoying being a first time dad. I'll admit that I did take the pics down because the whole IVA thing was annoying me....but all's ok as I've found a solution to the glass issue: Who needs glass anywayThey do custom stuff and aren't too pricey I'll resurrect the thread once I've made some notable progress (am back on it now) Cheers

Maybe some one could help me on this ? Right if you buy a complete floor pan ( non standard / gen part ) and let's say fit it to a mk1 or mk2 escort how is this legal ? And doing a chassis swap is not ? In my opinion the chassis would of been through all the tests but where as when you buy a cheap repo part would have not been for any test ? Most old cars have none genuine parts fitted to keep them on the road so why should a chassis swap need glass tests , if it's good enough for the dealer to mass product it in the 70's 80's etc which people still drive today what's wrong with it now , you could still be sat in your old legal viva and be hit by a nissan skyline would the E mark save you ? . Just seems a lot so messing around to me , most classic rally cars would not be able to compete in rally stages as to having heated front screens , carbon windows , panard rods , tramp bars etc etc If anyone could clear this up for me or give any idea what's it all about because I think the world is going mad with to many people thinking oooowe that's wrong rather than thinking wow what a good idea , I do agree with vehicles to poss have a extra road test but think this is just a bit to far , most classic cars would be banned off the road, Rant over but am looking forward to see what other people think on this

Just says sva has gone and the new iva is in place , I can not see or read anything to say what can and can not be done to a vehicle or there reason why as said just a lot of people doing some fancy talking but not putting anything in black and white which to be honest is probably a good thing as said most retro / classic cars would not be on the road or would poss be ileagle , if you have to stop doing any repair work to them , if you change a inner wing, chassis led and outer wing with none genuine parts or second hand would your car be legal ? , most old ford now have every panel to replace old ones , where does the iva start and finish on this ? I don't no

Are these not the questions that need to be answered ? Is that not what this thread is about ? Is that not what some one asked about on this thread ? Is that that why poss this thread stopped ? , I like the idea and agree with what he is doing but what I would like to no is why so many clever ?! People say what about the sva etc but can never answer the question ?
Want to see more of this build and loads of pictures as I think a old motor with a new floor pan is a great idea just don't like people trying to kill people's ideas and builds by trying to be a no it all
More builds like this should be done and if there was poss not as many people trying to be clever sticking there nose in then more would be done , safety and law is a must but ? Unless you no the law and can say why and what is right or wrong with proof then poss better not say anything at all . I do not no the in' s and out of the law but just get fed up with clever keyboard warriors that seem to like telling people what they think and not listen to anyone else because they no everything all ready
