Alloy wheels with damaged lacquer - best way to refurb

I have purchased some 13" alloys for my Mini Cooper.

the lacquer is cracked / spidered in areas and they could benefit from a strip and re-do.


i understand something has been changed in Nitromores so it isn't as effective on car paint / lacquer anymore.


Is is there another automotive type stripper I can use or is it down to hours of wet n dry paper and elbow grease to get the old lacquer off?  

I plan to polish the external rims, paint the face and paint the inside rim (unseen bit)

I did this recently, you need to go to a paint shop that will sell you paint stripper with the stuff Nitromors used to have in it, can't remember the name of the chemical off the top of my head. My local auto paint shop sold me some 'Euro' brand paint stripper that worked perfectly, also I've heard that Starchem Synstrip which you can buy on eBay works well on lacquer. Good luck!
