I'll add more information to this thread as we firm up the details but right now this is what we do know
Helmets - Mandatory (please bring your own) Cars - MOT, RFL, Insurance - Mandatory (bring your documents with you for sign on) Cars arriving on Trailers - you need a weekend camping pass (turn up "on the day" with a car on a trailer and it's not running up the hill) Number of runs up the hill - TBD Session times - TBD Cars - not newer than 2000 (would prefer pre 95 but 2000 is absolute limit & firm)
What we do want to achieve
- Great value for run(s) up the hill - Maximum number of participants - Safe and enjoyable experience for both spectators and participants
Every year we try to learn from previous years but this year we have to start from scratch and whilst that means some details need to be firmed up as we approach the event it also means issues that we know cause us major headaches we are going to do what we can to avoid them

Potentially a dumb question from a normally non-participant in motorsport -
Do helmets have to be inspected or bear an inspection sticker, or conform to a particular standard? I'm sure I read that in a handbook for autograss, does that apply in this instance?

Main query from me is about what happens when you reach the top. Shelsley does not have a return road so it's a quick trip back down the hill. How many cars will go up before they all come back down (and therefore we have to wait at the top away from the show and action) and also you need to make drivers aware of speed restrictions on the return leg.
Hoping i'll have a running retro to take up the hill too!

Great question - Thank you I'll seek clarification from Shelsley My current view is It's your head in it - if it's suitable for use on a motorcycle it's OK for this event - the hill is not timed or in any way a competition but we need to comply with shelsley requirements.

Another good question - we will be running the cars in groups - most likely starting each group with guest cars There is limited space at the top and we will be working with Shelsley to get the best operation balance between runs up the hill and time taken returning the cars (we don't know what that is yet)

I'm guessing that the need for helmets means that kids won't be allowed up the hill then? Mine are going to be gutted if that's the case

My current view is It's your head in it - if it's suitable for use on a motorcycle it's OK for this event - the hill is not timed or in any way a competition but we need to comply with shelsley requirements. I asked this of the people at Shelsley when they raised it, they agreed with what you said, we're not looking for this season MSA spec crash helmets, just something suitable that if you roll and smack your head on your door/roof/floor/whatever we won't definitely be needing to send you to hospital We are endeavoring to source a crash helmet supply, but obviously it won't be one for one for the amount of people heading up the hill, so if you have something please bring it

Mine are going to be gutted if that's the case Sorry to jump in on Ian again, but I think your kids may be gutted, sorry . They are allowing passengers, but again with helmets and there was a minimum age as well (which I think was 16, but it may be less).

while we are asking Q's about passengers, is there a maximum amount?? ie if I took the bluebird up the hill, could I have rear seat passengers also?? or if I fitted the truck with some proper seats in the bed, could passengers go up in that??
what about vehicles with no factory fitted seatbelts?? ie ford pop, pre belts??
cheers all, sure it'll be as superb as it's always been!

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman

I think it would be worth checking about noise regs.

Question already asked - prescott didn't have a restriction on passengers but it made me bloody nervous when a car that was running up the hill with 2 people suddenly had 4 people in it - massive change in weight etc - I was concerned at Prescott - I'll not be happy at all at shelsley with 4 up running - JMO.....

Hi I just joined today and being a competitor at Shelsley since 1986 you will not find a better venue for Retro cars Its a fantastic hill, the place has real history and is the oldest continually used race track in the World.... I won my class overall in the Midland Championship a couple of years ago in a 1992 Nissan Pulsar GTiR and once its sold ( for sale now if anybody interested) I will be returning in a Riley Elf special saloon. If I can answer any questions please let me know.. PS it has a great Bar that sells Hereford Pale Ale,,,lovely summer beer..
