Much like tax exemption, rolling for sale age rule?

Hello all,

I'm not a hugely regular poster on here but I have been on the forum a while and have a number of mates that quite regularly visit.

We were chatting the other evening about how cheap certain cars are now around the 10 year old mark, and how long the 'Pre 2000' sale section has been in place. We came to the conclusion that as that section is primarily for the sourcing and flogging of cheap hacks that people don't want and others can make use of, why not make it a rolling 10 year rule? There are many cheap, usable cars now from the 4 years after 2000 that would probably serve people better than some motors listed in there...

Anyone have any further thoughts on this?

I'd totally put my 2001 (but launched before 2000, etc) Alfa in there if I could but no, I think the rule makes sense. There's nowt retro about a 2002 Vectra. Sometimes I wonder about the 1999/2000 BMWs that crop up, that just look like tidy secondhand cars to me and positively respectable!

Agree with the above, there's nothing 'retro' about anything from the 90's onwards, but there's plenty of cheap older cars someone will find a use for. At some stage any time limit has to shift, so when it does I'd go for a rule of thumb of 15 years and make it rolling.

I agree actually, my mate has just picked up a 2002 Daewoo Lanos with a full MOT for £300 as a daily, it's not retro but could have been of interest to someone on here as a daily hack. Hateful car though

I've been tempted to adjust the age limit to cars with 'aged by letter' number plates. Not as a rolling age concession but to simplify moderation. I'm not bloody-minded enough to check if a Y reg car is a 2000 or 2001.

It's worth remembering that the NPIBOT2 section is really only there to get rid of run-of-the-mill stuff that clogs up the proper section. Helping people find daily hacks has never been a priority of the for sale section.
