Do you dream of feeling like James Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies?
Well look no further friends as I am about to turn your wildest fantasies into reality...
Selling my BMW 740i. Its an early 1998 R reg, last of the pre facelift models. Its an absolute beast of a ride, bit gutted to be selling it, I grow attached to all the cars I’ve owned... with exception to the diesel not even a good colour mondeo, my dad convinced me was a good buy. Having said that it was pretty much the only car I didn’t lose much on after I sold it!
Back to the sell.... its the 4.4 v8 automatic and the car has a huge spec. Colour – aspen silver – best colour in my opinion and the same as Pierce Brosnans in James Bond! Full black leather interior, electric memory front seats, electric windows x4, electric sunroof, electric folding mirrors, auto dimming rear view and wing mirrors, rain sensitive wipers, climate control, air con, working car phone, still has original first aid kit in rear headrest and tool kit in the boot, cruise control, central locking, alarm and immobilser, manual and sport gearbox mode, 18” staggered M-parallels... probably more stuff I can’t remember.
Its by far the most comfortable car I have ever driven. To think that this was once a 50k car 15 years ago is crazy. In more good news, it has 7 months MOT, and 4 months tax left. Only advisory on the MOT was a tyre, so the car works!! I’ve had it for about 3 years... it does need a few jobs doing to it hence the low price and I don’t work on these myself so mechanic bills are too much for me right now. Main reason though is I’ll be driving a lot more miles this year and don’t want it to be my daily drive, its got 146k on the clock.
Here are the bad bits....
Temp gauge says its getting hot but just had temp sensor changed and radiator flushed and it seems to be ok now ... I’ve also replaced the radiator, overflow tank, top and bottom hose, auxiliary fan and thermostat about 18 months ago. Like I said, for me to pay a mechanic to fanny about with it costs me a fortune, if you know what you’re doing I imagine you will get to the root of the cause.
Pulling to the left slighty. My mechanic told me he couldn’t find anything wrong but I don’t believe him! Could be the bearings, maybe just the tyres like the mechanic said.
Drivers side electric window broke about a month ago. Window dropped so probably the runner.
Sunroof opens but doesn't close so have to do it manually.
Pixel loss in dash and radio screen, common probably with these. Tricky diy job, couple hundred quid to send it off.
Chrome trim on rear door needs fixing back on. Comes off as you open the door.
Boot strut broke so boot lid doesn’t stay up and weighs a ton as the mechanic informed me when it dropped on his head.
Cd changer in boot won’t read disks anymore, displays error in the display. Use to play anything though.
Drivers wing mirror glass needs replacing, and its the expensive electrochromatic ones if you don’t wanna just stick a mirror glass over the top.
Drivers door is very creeky, drivers seat bolster shows wear but no holes or worn through anywhere.
Paint bubbling above rear arches and a coin size on the boot lid.
Front fog light has cracked. No idea how this happened only noticed the other week.
Wheels need refurb.
Rear lights look rubbish, but I have a set of clear/reds and a pair of smoked lights which I’ll chuck in if I get the right money otherwise I’ll get 150 off ebay for them. I also have two part worns I bought which I’ll have fitted as a couple of tyres look terrible.
I've spent a fair amount of money on it, new disks/pads were also done a couple of years ago, clear side repeaters and indicators, etc. I have the V5 and original handbook, oh it has full service history up to about 130k I think.
ANOTHER PRICE DROP now so looking for £800ono or swaps, was up for 1150, does need a few jobs doing as listed above but you get a whole lot of car for pennies. Its not perfect by any means but if you want a cheap ride that looks good it will certainly get you around and about and it does clean up well. And as I said, if you can do the work yourself then its probably not that much. Very much open to swaps, as long as it at least has MOT on it. Located on the Wirral near Liverpool. Photos were taken in March.
