Fitting welder and car into garage

Hi

So after persuading myself in this thread retrorides.proboards.com/thread/160691/size-matters-fun-cars-long that I can fit a Porsche 924 at 4.2m long into my garage, I finally have one and an empty garage, so I decided it was time to put the Porsche away.

I took the side off the welder to try to remove it from the trolley it sits on, and discovered that it's not sitting on a trolley - the shelf at the back is the base of the welder. So now I can't fit it into the hole I had saved for it, and I'm a bit stuck.
I might be able to squeeze the welder in on the side at the front of the garage, but I really need to put my bike there. I don't want to cut the shelf off the back of the welder, but I don't see any other way of fitting everything in. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Just a thought - would a normal Clarke MIG welder fit into that gap? Anyone interested in swapping a Clarke for a Murex?

remove the bottom horizontal from your bench
and shove it in on the diagonal ?

It won't go in the end, but I might be able to take the bottom shelf out and remove the bottom front beam. The bench might just fall apart, but if it doesn't, I could wheel it in and then bolt the front back on again! That's worth a go, before I start buying/selling/swapping kit.
It's a Tradesmig 160, so I think it does 30A to 160A. Not sure I want rid yet though...

Put it in back to front, the shelf will fit under the bumper of the car, disconnect the torch connector if it helps.

Put it in sideways, its not hard to modify a wooden bench.

Just cut the bottle tray mate and reweld it so the wheels are still under and it fits flush with the red case

Could even make a slideable base that could pull out from underneath and lock I into place when you need to weld and rest bottle on !!

That's what i would do otherwise your constantly gonna be moving it round garage at tripping over it

The wheels are bolted on, so I could probably just drill new holes and move the wheels. I wasn't sure about cutting the base of the welder, but it's probably the best option. Not sure about making a sliding base - I might just chain the bottle to the top of the welding. I agree about the other alternaties - either moving it around a lot of locking it inside the bench so it's hard to use and impossible to replace the wire.

Have you thought about a shed to clear some additional space ? The Ketter and similar plastic only take a short time to build up andyou can simply lay them on any level ground like lawn, patio and such. I bought a cheap metal shed with hinged rather than the more common sliding doors off eBay for £99 delivered as a temporary store. I built it up with pop rivets instead of the supplied screws and a few years later it's still in good condition.

Sadly, the only access to the rear garden is through the house, and the by laws on our estate are that you're not allowed sheds (no idea why). It's not very big anyway. I have more bikes out back, but I'd like to keep my daily in the garage at the front. Much of the junk in the garage is either getting somewhere good to be stored or getting thrown away, but I want to sort the big bits out first...

that looks to be much bigger than a clarke 151TE 150amp welder I've got, which would easily fit into a space 24" long x 15" wide x 18" tall (if you remove the handle for wheeling it about

I'd love to swap but I don't think my worn out old Clarke 110en would be a fair trade.

I daren't hang it from the ceiling (it weighs a ton), and having measured up, it will only just fit inside the bench (so you wouldn't be able to see the dials on the front). I think chopping the back off is probably the only sensible solution that involves keeping it!

looks like it's a nice simple construction anyway - as you've said, unbolt the wheels, relocate further forwards, and slice off the back

Can you not chop the side base from the wooden table and re-attache it at the top, so you can swing the welder in sideways , 90de, degrees to what it is at the moment ?

P.s first dibs please if you consider getting rid of the welder , I'm local so easy enough ....[ cheeky so and so ]!

I moved the wheels and chopped the back. Now it fits in the hole (but the torch sticks out a bit).
