bit.ly/1xqa7ifMy love of cars stops dead at anything with headlights external to the front wings - I have no idea why. I just don't like the look. No idea why. This Fiat from 1938 is the oldest car I have known of with the headlights in the front wings - are there any more?

Probably Tatra (as usual whenever any 'first' is mentioned). 1935. Before that headlights were in the bonnet. This is from 1933.

The Fiat and Cord look more like 50s cars typically did rather than 30s ones, they must have been way ahead of their time with styling including the built in headlights.
Tatras on the other hand are just amazing cars in so many ways, I love them.

Or the Tatra 77A from march '34: Though I'm not sure it counts, the Rumpler Tropfenwagen from 1921: And from 1930, the Rumpler Stromlinien truck: But that's not a car, strickly speaking. And it's more or less a one-off (they made two of them) with front wheel drive

Does this count? A Pierce-Arrow C4 Coupe from 1916. (photo from pierce-arrow.org) I think some earlier cars of the same make also had lights like this but these are the earliest ones I could find that look like a one piece body panel.

Well, that Fiat is a 50s rebody. Doesn't have headlights, still it is only 1923... Bugatti T32 'tank' Jaray-Ley T6, 1923 How about 1925 Hanomag Kommissbrot 1932 Maybach Zeppelin Spohn Stromlinie Is this cheating? 1935 Peugeot 402 1936 Bugatti Type 57G 1938 Alfa-Romeo 2900 Search for 'ponton car design' if you like to find more.
