Hi all, thought I'd put this up here to see if there's any interest...
Bognor Regis Motor Club is organising a grass autotest on Sunday 13th July, to be held near Billingshurst, West Sussex. It'll be a fun day's grass-roots motorsport with all levels of competitiveness (even total beginners) catered for.
Interested but can't get to Sussex? Check out your local motorsports club for all kinds of low cost, great fun, social motorsports related stuff.
So, what's an Autotest??
Easiest thing to do is YouTube of course - but essentially, take a grass field, put some cones down as markers; get given a route that goes around and around and around those cones; fastest time wins - penalties for incorrect route or hitting a cone. There's usually 10-12 courses to have a go at.
Can you take part??
Yes. If you're not already a member of an MSA affiliated motorsports club, then you'll need to join BRMC. A full year's membership is £20 and we're offering entry to this event for just £1 to new members. Great value for a fun day! As the event is run entirely on private land, competitors can take part from just age 14 (with supervision of course). Spectators are also welcome.
Is your car suitable??
Almost certainly. Some people will take the event quite seriously and bring specially modified, lightened cars (remember it's private land, so they need not be MOT'd or taxed if you bring it on a trailer!) but others will turn up just for the fun and experience in the family saloon. Damage is very unlikely, as the only thing to hit is a fairly squishy cone, but the suspension may get some excercise and there could be some dust if it's a dry day. Scrutineering is basically a check that nothing's insecure (particularly items inside the car as well as battery etc), that there's no leaks of fuel, the throttle doesn't stick on, noise levels are not excessive... just basic safety stuff.
