Mercedes Benz C180 1.8 Elegance (1996) 4dr Petrol Automatic.
Standard Information:
Anti-Lock Braking System, Electric Mirrors, Electric Sunroof, Electric Windows, Full Service History, Immobiliser, Metallic Paint, Mileage Verified, Power Assisted Steering, Remote Locking, Stereo.
This car has only been in my possession for a couple of months after it was bought locally as an emergency stop gap after my previous car blew its head gasket leaving me without means to travel to University where I needed to finish my studies. I now have a fifteen minute walk to work so the car is no longer needed.
The bloke I bought the car off had been the owner for a couple of years and was replacing this Merc with another one. From memory he had bought a 2.2L one with half the mileage as he was looking to start towing a caravan and wanted the extra power, but had stuck with Merc as he was so impressed with it. He did actually have a third Merc too but I’m going off tangent here. The point being this guy knew his Mercedes’ and rated this one highly.
Since the purchase I have had to tax it, which now sees it taxed until 31st December 2014. The MOT runs until May 18th 2015 and there were no advisories.
You can also see from the MOT that this car has not covered a lot of miles in recent years as the Odometer readings for the past few years show:
26/04/14 – 78,416
18/05/13 – 74,731
10/05/12 – 72,858
19/05/11 – 72,444
The car comes with all relevant books and paperwork, as well as two working keys and a third key card for cutting. The mini key for the glove box is also present.
Books include the Owners’ Manual, Maintenance Booklet, Service Book and Radio/Cassette Manual. There is an aftermarket radio in the car so you can play CDs with an aux port for plugging in phones or ipods too however I do have the original radio as well so if the new owner wants to revert back to the original then you can do, otherwise you can stick to one side in a cupboard like I have done.
The service book shows the Service History as follows:
09/07/1997 – 8,788 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
11/06/1998 – 17,863 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
30/03/1999 – 27,547 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
01/09/1999 – 35,953 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
04/04/2000 – 45,678 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
24/04/2001 – 53,193 miles at Mercedes Benz Rossette Eastbourne Ltd.
07/05/2004 – 60,676 miles at Southern Commercials, Eastbourne.
12/05/2006 – 67,244 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
14/05/2007 – 68,382 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
07/05/2008 – 69,636 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
11/08/2009 – 70,709 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
19/05/2010 – 71,775 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
19/05/2011 – 72,441 miles at Caffyns PLC, Eastbourne.
23/01/2013 – 73,300 miles by previous owner (Oil and filter change).
So almost a Full Service History until the last couple of years. I am no car expert and don’t pretend to be. To my eyes it is just a straight car that has been well cared for. There is no rust on any of the bodywork which some of the Mercs do suffer with, and I can’t see any under the car either which I checked when buying the car myself. Perhaps a bonus of spending so much of its life in the warmer tropical climate of down south?!?
There is a small scuff on the front bumper and a tiny scratch on the boot, which for an 18 year old car isn’t bad.
Everything works inside the car – windows, sunroof, blowers, etc. This is one of the old school Mercedes where the build quality was something else and every button, knob, switch still works and there is no squeaking or rattling to be heard.
It might seem an old car on paper but these are the cars that get run as taxis in many countries and at 78,000 miles this one has hundreds of thousands of miles still left in it.
To save further waffling if you have any questions feel free to either ring on 07748202707 or message me on here. I do work during the days so if I don’t answer then please leave a name and number and I will call you back as soon as possible.
The car is located in Preston about 500 yards from Junction 31A of the M6 and is still being driven here and there so the mileage will creep up slowly.
Thanks for reading.
