For sale my lovely 1998 Mazda MX5. I only bought it a few months ago (May 5th) and I've had lots of work done that needed doing but need something a little bigger as I'm back and forth across the country quite a lot.
It's done a very low 71200 miles, this will go up as it's still in use, but only local milage so you won't need to worry about a big hike. Taxed until September 2014 and MOT until October 2014, so still a little while left on both. The previous 2 MOTs had no advisories. I've had it up on the ramp and can't see any reason why it won't pass again, especially after the work that I've had done to it.
Since I've owned it it's had:
- 2 front tyres (mid range brand, loads of tread left!) on the front. Rear tyres are Goodyears with as much meat left too
- Brake pads ALL around, a brand new set which have only just been bedded in
- A full service last month. Fresh Mobil Super 2000 10w40 oil, genuine mazda oil and air filter. New NGK plugs and Racing Beat Ultra plug leads.
- An aftermarket alarm has been fitted with an immobiliser for extra security
- A brand new battery 2 weeks ago
This was a good few hundred quids worth of work.
The car was a category D write off a few years ago. DO NOT stop reading there however - it was written off as it was keyed on a couple of panels! Rather than take it off the road the previous owner took it in and had it fully resprayed in it's original colour, Evolution Orange. Therefore the paint is in extremely good condition for it's age. There are only a couple of marks here and there as to be expected but you'll struggle to find one this clean again. The interior is in equally good condition with the original Mazda mats, tan leather seats and matching gear gaiter.
The car does excellent milage considering the engine size and age, it's also very comfortable on long journeys. I've travelled to Wales and back on the same tank, and have done Milton Keynes to Bristol and back on one tank with enough fuel to last a couple of weeks of town milage too. It does better average MPG than my 1.3 Micra I had before it. The engine is also very sweet, starts up first time every time. Like all MX5s it likes to warm up before being driven swiftly but it's usually up to temperature within a minute.
Comes with 2 fully programmed keys and 2 alarm fobs! I've also got a big stack of receipts and previous MOT slips. No service history present but it's low milage anyway and it's just had a full service.
Only bad bits that come to mind:
- Tiny bubble of rust under the paint (pictured). It's not serious at all, I reckon it won't need doing for another 2 or more MOTs and it's so small it will be an easy and cheap repair.
- Roof has a couple of slits a couple of inches long. I've kept a bit of sealer and gaffer tape on the wholes to keep it water tight for now. Even when exposed it only let's a little standing water in if it's rained the night before. Even in heavy rain it doesn't let it in when driving. Cheap repair, and full roofs can be had for £50 on here.
- No radio will be supplied however the harness is in mint condition and untampered for you to plug your own in straight away.
Other than that it won't need anything for a long long time!
The previous owner didn't bother sending the log book off so I applied for it a week and a half ago, should be here this week or next. So obviously I can't do a full sale just yet but you are more than welcome to come and view any time as I'm currently on holiday. If you like the car you're also more than welcome to place a deposit and collect once I have the log book.
I'm sure that's everything but if there's anything I've missed feel free to ask! Once it's sold I can pursue my dream of owning a Renault Clio 172 or 182 Cup!
