Hi, I want to insure my Jag XJ8 for a month, maybe 2.... But no more. I am using my No Claims on another car, so cant use them.
Now ringing around I can insure it for 12 months for £261 but there is quite a high cancellation fee.... All of these temp insurance websites want more than that for 1 month. The cheapest I found for 1 month was £130
Cant add it to my normal policy as a temp car as the engines to big apparantly!
Any ideas?

Just insure it for 12 months at £261? Unless that price is with your no claims being used on the other car?
If the quote is without your no claims, £261 for 12 months is a great price IMHO.

Compass, you are right that price is using 0 NCD, so is a great price for 12 months. Not so great for 1 month though, which is the issue. I wont be keeping it long you see.... And there cancelation fee is nearly £100!

You can still declare your NCB when insuring a second car, you won't lose it just because you are insuring two cars.

You can still declare your NCB when insuring a second car, you won't lose it just because you are insuring two cars. Are you sure? Everytime I've insured another car, the questions are "how much NCB do you have to use on THIS car?" "Are you using any NCB on another car?"

Exactly that, NCB can only be used on one car at a time.

Okay fair enough, this isn't anything I have ever heard before, they normally ask 'how many years NCB do you have?' NCB just means that you haven't made a claim so why would it make any difference on driving a second car, the only reason they would say it doesn't count on another car is to get more money out of you?
Just done 3 different online quotes and not one asked if I was using my NCB on another car!

Confused as to the point of OP's question! So, spend £260 on 2 months insurance or buy an annual policy for £1 more and, when you cancel after 2 months, get around £117 back. A no-brainer surely?! This thread is desperately short of pics;

Sorry what I mean is, yes £261 is good for 12 months, but really I only want to drive it for a month, so taking out that policy will end up costing me nearly £150 with the cancelation fee! I guess the point is, how come I can insure it for 12months for £261, but 1/12 less time Its only half the price! I was hoping I could get it covered for about £50 for a month! Hope that makes sense!

I did this recently with my E46, which had run out and I had just bought an E30, so sale of the E46 fell through - so I called insurer that had insured the E46, explained I needed temp cover, and was using my N C on other car, I got 3rd party f & t for £30 p/m, so try doing the same with whoever you had the Jag insured with previously !!
