Hey there,
The internet can be a wild, confusing place and larger, active forums are one of the more confusing places to find yourself. Do not fear though, we are here to help!
All forums work in their own unique way, this is how Retro Rides works, some are forum rules, some are just how we approach stuff, it makes up our Modus Operandi:
1) Everything has potential
This does not mean everything is good to start with, just that with the right eye and a bit of thought every car can have the potential to be interesting.
2) If you haven't got something constructive to say, say nothing
Sure this is stifling your freedom of expression, however I'm not interested in cars you don't like, I'm interested in cars you do. Conducting oneself in a positive manner will result in positivity.
3) If it’s not about cars, don't post it
Rides is our escape into cars, a place where cars are king and nothing else can intrude. Intrusions will be met with cats.
3.1) Your penance is a new thread with cool cars in
If you stray from 3) we won't ban you, but you will have to pay the price, a tax of one new thread of cool stuff to replace the bad one you just made.
4) You get out what you put in
One line posts demanding pictures or information will be met with one line answers telling you to go and look for yourself. Details please, why do you want to know, what examples have you already got, pictures would be nice.
5) Just the facts ma'am
I'm not interested in your opinion of certain modifications safety or legal status, I want facts, until you have facts keep your mouth shut. The same goes for petitions and "new laws", I want the facts about them not hang wringing panic mongering, thank you.
6) Reposts are not bad
Sometimes you'll post up something that’s been on before, this is not a bad thing, if it was a while ago then it is good to be reminded, if it was recent then we'll just point you to the recent thread. Don't ever worry about reposting stuff, particularly if it’s cool. If it is a question check the "Useful Threads Archive" first though.
7) Modern cars are not evil
So stop whinging about them
8) Environmentalism is not bad
So stop whining about it as well. Misguided environmentalists are though, however using information gained via facts we can help inform misguided people.
9) Be excellent to one another
Please, be respectful to one another, older people don't jump down the necks of new people if they make a mistake, new people listen to those that are wise, they can save you money, mistakes and looking like a fool.
9.1) Women are petrolheads too
Yeah, sure, they're all cute and pretty and fluffy-bunny-pink and talk about cats and babies and emotions and stuff, but they're capable of liking cars too. If they're interested in you they'll make it known away from here. So no perving, no patronising, no desperation and no attitude please. We're here to talk about cars, this isn't a leching or dating agency.
10) Yes you can advertise your business in your signature
Stop asking me, it’s fine.
11) Your signature is too big
Even if you think it isn't, it is. Unless it’s just text.
12) Stop f@?#ing swearing
We're a board that is for everyone to read, and some people don't want to read swearing, sure you can be clever and get past the swear filter, but it makes you look like an illiterate pillock who can't actually form a proper sentence, so don't do it.
13) Do not feed the troll
If someone is trolling the forum, ignore them. They will soon go away or get banned.
14) Yeah you’re a rebel I'm sure, but I'm still in charge
It is natural to rebel against rules and guidelines, but do it too much and you'll end up annoying me, I reserve the right to disable your ability to post, sorry.
15) HAVE FUN!
Despite rules, moans, whines, grumbles, stresses and strains, really we're all here to have fun with older cars, never ever forget this is supposed to be fun.
And if you don't like all this, then you are invited to go elsewhere, I love my forum, and other people do too, if you aren't one, then so be it, don't try to make it something it’s not.
