Wow! Lucky the towie didn't use the industry standard, 'only strap down the left front wheel to save five minutes!'

I did hear there was a thread about this on a recovery forum, but it was taken down cos it turned into a C&S slagging off fest. Anybody see it?

That was a lucky escape. I would have thought the bed of the truck should be locked in some way to stop it moving.

What happened to the truck o cause that. Bryan I suspect there is some locking mechanism for the sliding bed that was overlooked. You'd probably get away with it carrying a car, but the heavier and taller van would load the bed way more when cornering than a car.

Weight shouldn't have been an issue - that bed doesn't weigh five tons.. and there's no weight in the luton box itself, either. My guess is it would've happened with an Audi A6 on the back, and there's an issue with the platform. You could've chucked in a couple of pics of the white one, too!

The beds slide under locking tabs at the end of their travel, either the operator hadn't dropped the bed fully down and missed the tab when it was slid in (easy to do, but also very obvious you've done it) or the tab broke off somehow. These trucks get used and abused and rarely have safety inspections! Poor attitude to maintenance was one of the many reasons I left my job doing this! Glad the van was ok, no straps on so I'm guessing this happened while loading?

I have now had a reply from the incident manager, not the CEO. He tells me C&S have inspected the van (WHY?). This is looking like the RAC want to shift the blame. I have replied that I do not want to be caught up in a denial of liability argument, and if the RAC wont accept liability I will have to resort to legal action. Oh and C&S, I've shown you mine, now you show me yours.....

There was very little in the back. Its irrelivant what may or may not be wrong with the van pre incident. The RAC loaded it up so have to accept responsibility. I didnt put a gun to thier head
