Quick update! A new car was added to the fleet today! retrorides.proboards.com/thread/176755/peugeot-diesel-estate-spares-repairsThis is just what I needed after moving out! Something big comfy and somewhat retro, very happy with it and a big shout out to Ralph, who was one of the nicest people I have ever bought a car off! Pictures to come tomorrow! In other news, I now have no room for the charade after deciding to keep the Porsche, so that will be up for sale by next week! Thanks, Mike

I have just read your thread and must say I love that charade. I'd love to buy it but don't have the money or the space.
What are the alloys on it...they are beautiful! Are they 4x114.3? If so I need some on my Justy!

If so I need some on my Justy! Thank you, the Charade has been an awesome car to me, and I am pretty happy with what it has become! But it is time for the little beast to move on as the 405 is ultimately its replacement. It needs some work on the rear arches rust wise and has a dent in the drivers door, but underneath is as solid as a rock! Not going to ask the world for it and willing to sell the wheels separately (as the Charade currently has 3 sets of wheels!) The wheels fitted to the Charade in the later photos are early ATS Classics, they are 13 inch 4x100 fitment and currently have 165 width tyres, perfect for a smaller car, but unless you can get hold of adapters, they won't fit your Justy I will post a official advert up for the Charade this weekend as I need room on the driveway so I can get my 924 back from my parents house! Sad times. Mike

liking the charade, splitter works well Thanks Rediment9ine, the Charade is going up for sale this weekend, although I do need to sort the logbook out as only have the green slip currently (only realised recently, I don't think the previous owner sent the logbook off as I have owned the car for 8 months!) I'm sure someone will snap both up together though as mentioned its a rare little beast now

Bad news: Hello all, cutting a long story short, the Peugeot 405td was very short lived after it decided to run away on its own engine oil, causing the engine to seize up after jamming at max rpms (even with the key out of the ignition), quite a scary experience! Good news: Picked up this 1987 Golf GL 1.8 Automatic from a neighbour, it has been sat on his driveway for approximately 12 years uncovered and unused, I had asked if he would consider selling in the past and was told it was his wife's car and she would never be looking to sell. A couple of days ago I had a knock on the door and to my surprise it was my neighbour asking if I would like to have a look around the car and potentially make an offer! After a good look around and getting the car running and moving, a deal was made and the car is now mine. Unfortunately I do not know much about the Zender body kit installed on this car other than liking the look of it, but I was told by the previous owner that it is factory fit and fairly rare. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out much about them so if anyone on here has any more info it would be great if they could share it with me! Anyway on with the pictures! It is going to take a lot of recommissioning and cleaning up, but thought I would upload some photos of how the car currently looks. Thanks, Michael.

Glad you saw sense and kept the 24, loving the new addition too...should look great after a good clean and polish! Much work needed apart from the usual service stuff?

Thank you baggabones, the '24 is now my daily driver!
So far the golf has received a carb strip down and jet clean, new vacuum lines, a fresh fuel filter and oil filter, and an oil change, it is running pretty much perfect at the moment to say how long it has been sat, and it is currently running on 12 year old petrol!
As the car has been sat in the elements for 12 years or so it is going to need a fair bit of recommissioning before it is roadworthy although it starts, steers and stops perfect;y, and I havent even touched the brakes they hadn't stuck or anything! plus all of the electricals work, so mainly its going to need new tyres, wiper blades and any rot underneath sorting out, then a damn good polish!
Mike,

Not many zender kits about now, snowflake alloys look well on the golf as well. Looks well to say it has sat for 12 years although as you may know these hide horrors under those spats and probably the skirts. No grot around the lower tailgate panel? The Charade been re homed now?

Thanks g52oyc, the charade has been involved in a minor bump and received front end damage But is still fully drivable and its new owner is picking it up some time next week! (technically I am giving it away for free but he is also buying the wheels it is on for £150!) There is a fair bit of rot, I will get photos and upload them shortly, I am pumping money from selling the 924 in to the golf to get it sorted though!

That Golf has alot of potential, I'll keep my eyes on this thread. I've just picked up a white 87 xr2 last MOT'd in 05, and it needs so much more work than the Golf. There's the difference between VW and Ford though Good luck and good on you for getting it back on the road.

Really like that Charade. I have a lot of old Volkswagen/Audi stock, the strangest things known to man like clips, genuine screws for parts of trim, anything you may need just send a PM and I will have a dig through.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I know the thread has been a little slow and haphazard but things will change quickly once the 924 sells and I have some money to throw at the Golf!
Foldy, I have always wanted an XR2 myself! But never found one within my small budget! I bet they are a load of fun to throw around! Unlike the GL, which I believe has no anti-rollbars as standard! (will be fitting a GTI one if that is true, it certainly feels like it! Also, you say it needs much more work than the golf? The golf hides its sills very well with the body kit... I dread to think what lies beneath it!
g52oyc, The charade has been one of my all time favourite cars, but after nearly a year of reliable service, I feel it is time to move on, and I couldn't turn the golf down when it was offered to me, I am just glad it is going to a new home to get repaired and looked after, as it had kind of become my daily hack! I will have a think about anything I may need, I am trying to hunt down an original tape deck at present! Might be after some other little bits and bats!
Thanks again!
Michael

Ok guys here we go, sorry it has been a while but not much has happened to keep everyone updated about, that is about to change!
So in the last god knows how long, the following has happened:
All hell broke loose regarding housing and places to keep the cars, The 924 had to go as I was broke at the time, The charade was damaged beyond reasonable repair when I accidentally clipped a tree with it, My girlfriends BMW blew the head gasket and was replaced by a civic, which was replaced by a SAAB (photos to come) I am currently using the civic as my daily.
The car count stands at 3 cars and 1 shell (My civic and golf, Her 900 and the 940 shell).
Now that that's over, back to the thread.

Onwards, My mum had been making noises that she was getting bored of driving around in the mighty Ssangyong Musso that my parents own, and said she wished she could have a small sporty car to have some fun with, que the MGF: I picked this up for her from Carandclassic for £199, it had a short MOT and the clutch pedal was on the floor after it had been sat for the best part of 10 months, rev matched it the 20 mile drive home and found the alternator had seized, along with the clutch release arm which had blown the seals on the clutch slave cylinder! Repair time, the photos speak for themselves, its actually fairly easy to work on for a mid engined car! Old alternator (with no belt as it had shredded and fallen off) Old alternator out: New alternator in (this was fiddly!) and belt on (engine running) And the result! Very happy with that, the clutch arm was pretty well stuck, but I noticed my jack handle slid pretty well over it, so working it backward and forward whilst spraying a little plus gas into where the arm goes in to the gearbox freed that up, but you have to be careful not to spray too much in, don't want to contaminate the new clutch the previous owner put in! After that, fitting a new slave cylinder and bleeding the system is relatively simple. The result was a car that can charge its own battery and move under its own power! Not bad for a days work! More to come on the golf and the rest soon! Mike.

And with the MG well on its way to being roadworthy once-more, its back on to the Golf! Last saturday was a mad rush to get it in for the MOT, as we decided we needed a list of things to work on. We already knew about this... Thats the rear wheel arch, and the rear sill on from the arch, but not as bad as it could be given the age of the car and how long it had been sat. Anyway I thought I would get a couple of shots of it whilst it was warming up for the MOT. Now this is where photo quality may suffer, apologies! It will be back to normal from this post on! At my favourite MOT place! She sure was getting a lot of attention on the way to, and at the garage. I miss owning a car which can make someones day just by them seeing it! Anyway, this was the result, not too shabby, the guy laughed and said he couldn't fail my headlamp missing a lens as the beam pattern was spot on and it didn't have any sharp edges! lol! So I got busy ordering these, including a new throttle cable as the old one was a little sticky. So this afternoon we cracked on making a start, fitting some of the new parts and preparing the sills for welding, as well as fitting some new parts to the mighty passat which belongs to my good friend Lawrence's girlfriend, hard to believe its on 225,000 miles! It runs like new! I am sure you guys will be seeing some more of this beast as the thread moves on, along with Lawrences Mk2 Golf GTI also undergoing "restoration". Out with the old and in with the new! Looking good! Now on with making a start on the brakes. Had to be really careful replacing the wheel cylinders, as from the looks of it the brake shoes were original and looked to contain asbestos... This was a real tense moment, removing the irreplaceable Zender side skirt to take a proper look at the sill and outer wheel arch, luckily all went well! Very surprised with how solid she was under the skirts, was expecting them to be hiding all sorts of horrors... The rear sill near the arch needs a little work but we already knew of that. Also as a bonus I am finally getting around to getting rid of the 940, which is pretty much a shell after the engine melted from too higher EGT's. It became a donor for my friends 740! Going to try and keep up the work on this thread so stick with me! Mike.
