There's a good condition one of these that I see daily in Plymouth. I'll be interested to hear more about it... Red one out somewhere towards Laira? Used to pass that on the way to see my other half when she lived just off Mutley, good to know it's still about if so. Think it's the only one I've ever seen on the road. Always liked them, true "function over form" and properly utilitarian, look forward to seeing this one progress

the first part of 'next to nothing' has been spent! £43.95 for a nice chunky 096 battery delivered to the door! Thought about taking my two dead batteries to the scrappies and sorting out a secondhand one but bought a useful size that fits other vehicles ... I've been cleaning out the front and it's becoming much more pleasant too. Beyond a proper hoover out, and a clean of the carpets and the dash, I think I'll get away lightly in there. Haven't got much time to play with it as I have to work and pay some bills but itching to be out and attacking it. Am going to pressure wash it underneath later and see how much floods in! And what state the chassis is in under the light coating of dirt. Costs so far £200 - purchase price £140 - delivery £43.95 - battery (£0.08) - found in passenger compartment so far - more to find I reckon! You too could be as clean as this ... before IMG_1124 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr and after five seconds with a baby wipe ... IMG_1169 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr first go for the heater, and yes, that is a digital clock! Posh or what!! IMG_1170 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr and here is what it looked like before! Blimey, that is the most frighteningly ugly vehicle I've seen in some time.
Absolutely love it!
It really does have the look of some foreign Police or military vehicle about it...
Cool purchase and good luck with it.

Kia Sorrento 2003 - 2009 have the same PCD, 5x139.7 on a 7x16 alloy rim. I think 17s & 18s were available too.

Love seeing it with the rest of the collection. Umm & Fiat are both such willfully 'ugly', basic utilitarian transport, contrasting with the Citroen & Mercedes 'limousines' you should park them well apart, get a bigger more imposing front gate & diplomatic flags for the limo's for the Messerschmitt consulate. {Tourists are advised to avoid the nation as rumours of possible military vehicle purchases may precipitate an attempt to expand its territory or a political coup of its leader. Failure to do so may result in forced labour & threats of tea.}

Love it, went on a 'safari' in Portugal about 12 years ago, up through the orange groves and mountains and streams...everyone else clambered for the landies, I went straight for the UMM! Wasn't exactly hardcore off roading but at no point did it seem to struggle or lag behind the landies in any way.

Love these, saw a "surf-wagon" one in deepest west cornwall whilst on hols last year, will see if i can dig out pics.
Keep the pics coming as you delve a bit deeper, but as she stands it doesnt look too bad rust-wise.

I just cant help but look at it from the front and think the car has a sad expression!
Looking forward to seeing it back on the road, I'm sure I recognise the car shape from Holidays when I was younger.

New battery arrived today! Thank You Tayna Batteries.
and, of course, I fitted it as soon as I could and turned the old beast over.
Well, diagnosis not good - starter churns over slowly with a lot of heating up of the cable so I am guessing it is f*cked.
Pricing up starters is a fun business. An UMM one is €190, plus €120 exchange surcharge. An LDV 400 (Pug 505) one can be had for £78 on Ebay, or I could take it off and head to the local starter and alternator service place, who will rebuild the current one.
Unless, of course, someone has an LDV 400, Pug 505/604 2.5 diesel engine starter motor.

Brilliant, the rust doesn't look too bad, should be simple enough to patch..... That clock.... It's the same as a suzuki Samurai clock Looking at the grill I can't help but think it's been designed so a winch would fit on the front bumper! It's almost like it's asking for one!

I just cant help but look at it from the front and think the car has a sad expression! Looks like a "pre rolled" landy to me! Hope this gets on the road and off if quickly! Oh and re the starter, check your earth leads first, they can get hot when the connection is poor!
