superb news! on the trying to stall at junctions, this is quite common on newly plumbed lpg engines,every one i have done(4) the engines take a while to acclimatise to the lpg,after the engine is used to it it will equire a new setup of the mixture, it is often caused by to long a line from the vapouriser to the injectors, basically with long lines what happens is this,you lift off throttle engine slows almost immediately? BUT the long lines mean the pipes/lines are still full of gas for the 2000rpm or what ever you were doing until the vapouriser only sends enough gas to tickover, so what you have is actualy a very rich isture which causes the engine to stall, is that the kind of symptoms you have? Hi rwd, i am not using injectors, this i very much old school, no ecu at all . with my setup the throttles are downstream of the mixer rings , so when i shut the throttle the lpg has no suction so only flows a little ,just enough for the engines to tickover .....when setup and working correctly . it is interesting that now the car has done a few miles the vacuum advance is working , due to the rungs and valves sealing better,although the front engine has an oscillating vacuum , due to my taking vacuum feeds off only the two front cylinders,, you can see the advance vac arm pulsating at idle constantly varying timing! i need another hydroponics plastic manifold to tap all the cylinders to so i have a smooth vac . regards robert

Well Done Robert. I think the first priority job before road testing begins would be to sort out a way to monitor the fuel level state and reserve tank so the good lady V is not on a 5 minute ready alert for tow duties when ever you go out in it? Another milestone to cross off the list on the build. Pete,in the rev counter i have mounted the control box for the lpg , so ,through the old clock face advance and retard slot i can see the leds showing fuel level ,i just did now know if they worked .I do now ! i have a rd and two yellows so i know i have over half a tank ..joy !

I do really want to come to RR, but it's such a long way I'm tipping onto the side of feeling it's too much to undertake in a day. =( That's literally the only thing stopping me. My own lack of intrepidness.

To the convoy suggestion... a convoy in theory does help me overcome my lack of intrepidness. I wouldn't be making the journey alone. However... overthinking it further... it's purely illusory. Because if two or more people are travelling in convoy the likelyhood of a break down is doubled, or tripled or whatever, and at that point it becomes the entire convoy's problem. The odds are it would be me that broke down, so I would then have the burden of guilt that my breaking down inconvenienced more than just myself. Also though... I've heard a rumour that jokers attempting to enter the RR gathering get cast aside by a crack team of joker jinxing jousters driving Jowett Javelins of justice. It's a hell of a long way to go just to get cast aside when you arrive.

Congrats with passing the MOT!!!. Great result and well deserved! I quess you get a lot of questions when you are out in Medusa. I run my Rover P5B on LPG (and petrol) What kind of evaporators are you using and are these adjustable? I wonder if these cause the poor idling and stalling. Peter Hi peter , i use the omvl r90 vapourisers , they are adjustable for idle bypass flow and sensitivity like normal vaps .the running problems are probably down to the mixer rings being on the big side at 32mm ,where they should be around 25mm , and the air flow past the bellmouth ends affecting the mixer ring to vap balance diaphragm port balance . I have the same evaporator on my Rover P5b and had 2 types of mixers. When i fitted the mixers underneath, i had to fit a kind of restriction in the pipe where air runs to the air filters other wise it would not run. You have completely open pipes so could be very sensitive. That said, i do not know much about LPG systems and air flows. You have your own bench but i just was curious.
I replaced these mixers with mixtures which are more or less a large ring with many holes and these are positioned in the elbows. The car runs much better with these

In my experience you need a bit of upstrem restriction on a LPG system, some sort of conventional paper air cleaner works well.

Thanks Craig ,and Tofuli , Peter and Kevin , i also have the ring of holes type , the problem is , they should really be 22mm to maybe 25mm in diameter , but in reality are 32mm which is a huge percentage bigger area ! i bought these cos they were cheap , and i knew i could modify them if needed. this means its not getting enough of a suck on the ring to provide engine satisfaction , and needs a tighter hole. So progress report: checked oil like what i said i would , and decanted a whole 4 litres into the two engines to get it happy up my dipstick. that's a lot of oil , and i can only assume these engines have a lot of galleries and shelves where oil collects and does not come back down ,,should fix my oscillating oil pressure ,both gauges now read exactly the same at 85 psi , woof!! that's a lot of pressure,especially since it stays at that even when hot ,,,can you say "stuck pressure relief valves " maybe . I also knocked the steering wheel off its splines and centred it , interestingly it drives fine , but on the mot ramp we could see ,when jacked up , it has huge toe out , so i really need to beg borrow steal some rose joints and bolts/spacers to let me drill out the steering arms and lower the track rod ends a couple of inches, to get the geometry back to where i designed it after the computer analysis i did on it. Went over all the lpg joints with it all pressurised to find any leaks , had a couple of small ones bubbling ,and one larger one really bubbling , but all tight now . great thing about being able to park it in an enclosed space , you always know if there a lpg leak the next morning ! Speedo needs a recal , had 45 mph reading 35 ,so will do that later ,means the cowl has to come off. That's about it for progress, plan for today is to break my don't work on the car at the weekends rule , and try to make some 25mm rings to slide down the trumpets and create more draw on the rings ,and so make it rich enough for cruise ...interestingly , it will accelerate well ,and start up well , but cruise is a spitfest . Oh, also, today i am mostly eating dripping . regards robert

Well, i had a bit of a thrash yesterday ,4.30 pm i started with this .. a hunk of nylony type of thing ,and after a bit of drilling and turning and hacksawing off 12 rings , then bellmouthing them ,by 630 pm i got these .. 12 , 25mm id mixer ring restrictors . finished fettling them at 9pm , then this morning i put them on the flowbench to see what they flow ... firstly i stuck a retaining screw in there so the monster flowbench from hell did not suck my ring right off ! then taped it on .. flow was better than i expected... slid the rings home , they were a nice push fit in the inlets . so jumped in the car ,and went for my test drive , was definately much richer ,however , got about 3 miles down the rd ,and hit a bump , and instantly got a lot of vibration from the back of the car . pulled over ,and had a look around , and found the staked transit uj cups on the prop had come free and were pretty much right out and off away to uj heaven ! POX. V came with a hammer , and i donked them back into place , and cruised home slowly . So my plan of a 11 to 1230 banzia run to the RRG 75 miles away were finally scuppered , very disappointing . i will take off the prop ,, and make some washers to fit in the cup detents , and weld them on properly ,also check the prop cannot hit anything on full bounce . regards robert

Sorry to hear about the uj's, those left field issues when you go out to check one thing and another goes wrong can be really annoying. Judging by the way you do things though, i doubt that problem will ever resurface
