I have been lax ,and a bit of a fopping pantywaister , mainly because i have been working mighty hard on stuff ,however ,here i am to help you all sleep.
In the last gripping episode , i was going to try to fix my errant prop cups , as opposed to Janet Jacksons errant bra cups , with a arc welding rod made for cast stuff .
So i dragged my arc welder out , which i last used in 1980 to make my turbo 400/4 exhaust , and fired it up ...IT WORKED !!
Fire in the hole occurred and i managed this blobbagenosityness..
Much better than i was expecting, and no mistake misses.
After that success i trolled slowly to the petrol station, AGAIN ,cos i was low AGAIN , and poicked in 40 litres this time .....now, you might say OI !!!

I started that day with the attitude " i will only do low down and cruise testing ,cos thats where i use it for the moment ...
ER YUP well , on the first run my foot sort of went to floor and stayed there ,and that was it for the rest of the day .:roll: i know ,i know... i am a bad boy ....but hey ...
after a bit off faffing , two things were clear ,it won't rev well , it won't fire on anything like 12 ,and it's a torquey thing (oh ..that's three) even so ,306 lbs/ft at 2500 is not to be sneezed at , ,however 180 bhp at 3500...
is to be sneared at .
looking at the plugs ..

it is obvious its a) oily ,and b) the 4.0 is mostly just along for the ride.
from one of the logs , the dotted line is the 4 litre , you can see it running v lean where it is actually missing , and the sudden raised plateau is where a few cylinders opt out and go man down ....the solid line is the 3.6 and is much more with it .
So , since Wednesday , i have ..
!) closed up plugs gaps to .5 and cleaned them .
2) redone tracking, it had gone toe out .
3)tested for leaks and redone servo manifold links due to terrible brakes ...seems a bit better .
4)tried tyres at 30/25 ...30/30..felt twitchy....34/20 seemed smoother. but steering vaguer.
5)tightened rear shackles ,,car seems to rear steer a bit , i think i need proper rose jointed tie bars ,,mine may have too much rubber .
6)closed off idle bleeds on vaps ,and running now only on sensitivity screws and flow taps .got v to hold it at 3k rpm and adjusted taps .
7)took for test drive just now ,observations are ..
driving feels wayward ...also still rear end steering power on and off causes a need for steering correction .
brakes feel 50 % better , may just need bedding in .
starting good , and tickover good , but cruise still spitting ,this may be a recurrent problem , will try pressure balancing the vaps with hoses to a high pressure area .
sitting still throttle response is better ,and nice barking exhaust note .
still not running all 12 ,and still wont rev , may need new ht leads ,and a msd 6 for each engine to get enough regular spark ,,lpg is often hard to fire and needs lots of kv's.
tried it with the ht lead covers off , and its made no difference .
i begin to wonder if my lpg globes can supply an even flow to all 12 ...
next trip is to Blenheim palace car show on monday for some fun .
priority jobs to do are fit some sort of drop link to the steering arms to bring the geometry into line , the arms need lowering 2 to 3 inches !!
luckily, and very kindly, turbomini Wil sent me some mini drop links and rod ends , i may be able to adapt the unf to m14 on the vw track rods...
fit o2 bungs to exhaust so i can have on the rd wide band logging and try to see whats going on .
onwards and upwards !
