Stolen sometime last night. Was a clean example but suffering from a dented passenger wing and a rust scab under the rear window on the drivers side from memory. Other than that it's was just a standard 1.4 Orion   |

Shame about the damage, but at least it was quick. I'd rather get a car back like that than never see it again. I tried to call in a car a few months ago which had numberplates clearly cable tied over another pair. The visible set were for a completely different car and all plod wanted to know was how I was making the call from behind it on the M62  . |

You do realise that you're perfectly entitled to use a mobile phone to make a call to the emergency services while driving, and I'm sure they know this, what with dealing with thousands of emergency calls every day... |

Yeah at least it's back but they refused to let us recover it ourselves and now the owner has to pay at least £200 in recovery and storage costs. Just seems like the powers that be are more interested in making honest people's life difficult than solving crime  |

You do realise that you're perfectly entitled to use a mobile phone to make a call to the emergency services while driving, and I'm sure they know this, what with dealing with thousands of emergency calls every day... I didn't know that!! I was in the passenger seat at the time anyway but that didn't seem to register on the call :/ I should probably add, the car in question was a Porsche Panamara which was weaving through the moderate traffic, the plates related to a Merc SL. |

Glad it's been found. Definitely some scroats about Get it out of the storage yard asap as ithe price will continue to go up. Also don't go through the insurance they will write it off for that damage. |

If they aren't taking plates they want to ring off other cars, how do people get these plates made up without a V5? I know garages (or whoever have the plate printing equipment) aren't meant to print them without seeing one, but don't know what measures are in place to check on that. Think they're meant to have the postcode of the place somewhere along the bottom too.

Car wasn't insured as it wasn't in use so it won't be written off. The owner isn't willing to spend anymore money on it getting it out of storage so it looks like me and a mate will be getting it, repairing it and putting it up for sale. Would be a shame for it to go to the crusher as it only has 35k on it

I beg to differ about using mobile while driving.. If you have a passenger who can make the call that's all well and good. As for the driver making the call you are supposed to pull in at a safe place This to my knowledge is true due to the fact that some curse word while using his mobile while driving Crashed into my father's pick up and killed him.. So as far as iam aware it's not legal to use phone unless your stationary If you can prove what you said is trueI will retract this statement and apologise. |

Working for a motorfactors and daily making number plates (pain in the arris) i can tell you that the supplier (us) should definitely be asking for v5 and driving licence. Each plate we make goes into an audit database and has our company name and postcode on it (apparantly anything else is illegal??).
It takes longer to enter the driver info than it does to make the actual plate. Garages get round this palava by applying to dvla and requesting an SSID number which is unique to each garage. We then have that number.
We we're told at the point of purchasing the numberplate hardware/software that failure to adhere to any of this could potentially result in a fine of up to £2k per plate made!!
It all boils down to traceability. Ebay and shows etc get round this law by advertising numberplates as being for 'show use only'.

Sorry to hear about your dad but he is correct about there being exceptions for emergency calls "Are there any exemptions? If you are in a genuine emergency situation and it would be unsafe for you to stop, there is an exemption in place that allows motorists to call the emergency services on 999 or 112 while driving." An update on the car is its been left at the impound. By the time SOC had been out to it the bill was already £270 and we found damage to a round about just down the road that suggested the sump had been smashed on it, which is probably why it was left in the middle of the road.
So once again the victim of crime is punished by the authorities for being the victim of a crime. What a fantastic country we live in.

Just seems like the powers that be are more interested in making honest people's life difficult than solving crime I would kick off about the recovery fee if you were about to fetch it/ move it from the road yourself promptly, unless it was a hazard to other vehicles and couldn't be moved otherwise there's no reason you couldn't have fetched it. To claim otherwise is just making money for the contractors |

As they are not the 'Person Responsible' mentioned in section 99 of the RTR 1984. www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/section/102www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/section/99You can pay under duress to get the vehicle back, but then chase for it to be reimbursed or even small claims court if they still refuse. |
