So, let's try this again.
The arrival of first born son a couple of years ago triggered a hitherto unknown burst of sensibleness. This became manifest in the form of a boring, diesel, French people carrier. Which I have grown to loathe.
The emergence of my son's love (even at 2) of old trucks, cars and bikes, plus the magic of ppi has allowed me to achieve a moment of liberation and acquire this..
..to replace said evil people carrier.98 328i Touring (auto - boo but OK), 99k, full history (it needed to be an estate to carry the folder of receipts etc!). It had the lux pack and a full M sport pack. Cosmetically it looks brilliant from ten feet away, but shows its age up close. The silver leather has a small hole in the drivers seat but is otherwise in great condition.
And it drives like you hope a straight six would.
So plans? Drive it a bit. Keep thinking about wheels...but kinda like the originals. And keep thinking about getting the various marks and dinks sorted, including the roof where some tree sap has attacked the lacquer. But I think it would end up being a full paint job.. So undecided.
Will definitely drive it for a bit first. Whilst I start attacking the big list of things that need doing on my other very recent acquisition...
I've wanted a Lightweight since I was 10. Having had lots of landys but never quite fulfilling the dream I couldn't pass this up. It needs a gearbox soon, has a dirty diesel from a 110 and the passenger footwell has more plates than my dishwasher....but it is utter love. Previously owned by an ex naval engineer it passed its Mot without advisory....a bit smokey when cold!
So...bye bye people carrier. Thanks, it hasn't been a blast. Game on...
