It's taken me a while to get home & back into normal life after the RRG mini-tat tour, so...
Thanks! To all the organisers, helpers, and general RRG's who made the event such a great weekend. The rain didn't help but didn't stop the fun
Some thoughts & ideas below that should help fix a few niggles - hopefully in the right sequence
Could we have the Gathering address & postcode on the letter that gets sent out with the tickets? I travel light (in chaos), had my ticket but forgot to write down the address before I left home. Oops
Showfield layout. When is the layout confirmed? Can we have a showfield map in with the tickets or published on the website a couple of weeks before the show?
Meet & greet at the campsite. All went smoothly, there was some confusion about the goodybags for the first arrivals but that's been mentioned elsewhere. Nothing to worry about.
Facilities onsite.
The portacabin toilets were fine.
Showers were appreciated but not so impressive. Often empty but ques at other times. 2 might be plenty if both work.
The portaloo type is flimsy & cramped, not sure if there are any alternative types available? Please
Thanks (or not ) to the helpful chap who told me on day#1 that the left shower was broken and had been "isolated". I had 2nd thoughts and went back to check - and found it had been "isolated" by turning off the big red on/off water valve in the shower - and it worked fine.
campsite etiquette , security etc :
Driving standards - see #Don'tDriveLikeADick thread
Loud music? Yes - you can have too much of a good thing! Remember - the neighbours might not like your taste
Trash. There were plenty of skips but could we have one near the exit to just dump binbags on the way out? Not sure what we can do about folk who don't know how a binbag works
Tat auction - top marks to all, especially KFW & assistants
Can somebody make a point to publish the final takings for the auction, and confirm where the procees have been donated. I know it's in good causes but details would be appreciated Were results / recipients for last year published anywhere?
The new venue felt a lot more professional, it was also more difficult to see what was in the the various boxes of tat that were being auctioned
The natives seemed ok (bemused?) walking through the auction crowd & piles of tat to get in & out of the bar, so no problems there.
If anyone knows the 2 idiots near the front who were arguing loudly about satnavs when Kev was trying to make himself heard, have a word with them >
Showfield & getting there.
Every car going into the showfield had to stop and ask for directions to their stand. The were only 2 staff on map duty when I went on site, top marks to the lass who was directing everyone when the other chap was busy It should speed the entry up a lot if we could have a couple of large site-plans displayed near the entry track on the way into the field
Campsite security on Sunday. Just checking - were any security left at the campsite once the show started? There were a lot of tents still up but not many people...
No show pics - sorry - but I found some sunshine the day after the monsoon on the showfield
