Hi everyone, Later this month I'm heading to Berlin with my girlfriend. One thing I really want to do is rent a trabant for a couple of hours... Any advice? Anyone done it recently? Also if anyone has, could you give me some ideas of where to go in one?. I don't want to annoy my misses with too much Cold War stuff over the couple of days haha This is the company I was thinking of renting with ( trabantberlin.de/english/ ) Thanks Chris

Daughter is just back from Berlin this weekend. She says the driving is a bit scary as they seem to ignore red lights. etc ! Looking at price list you have to pay E50 extra for delivery to Berlin so I'd say save that amount and use it for taxi to renters premises and go for a drive in countryside instead of the "stop-start" of city. BTW she loved Berlin and intends going back as plenty to see / do. Plus I have German relatives who live there

Went on the Trabbie Safari and it was great fun. 2 hours following a guide in another car with plenty of interesting stops. No hassle with the car or driving at all..... oh yeah, apart from my mate turning off the fuel supply thinking it was a heather knob right in teh middle of Berlin rush hour, lol!
Will go again, and hopefully for longer next time.

I just want to say that me and my girlfriend hired a Trabant from TrabantBerlin.de today. It was an amazing experience!!!
We took a 2 hour trip and i would definitely rent one again and maybe for longer next time. In the two hours we managed to drive through Checkpoint Charlie (had to be done), past the Brandenburg Gate, down to the East Side Gallery, stopped, and managed to get some photos with the car. I also noticed some other people getting pictures with the car when we left it for a little while. If your ever out there and thinking about it, trust me it is so much fun! But make sure you have a good Sat Nav... we used Google Maps. Another thing to add is one of the guys there, Patrick, spoke good English too and its also a bit of a garage/restoration place for Trabants by the looks of it.
The gears are a bit mad but driving it seemed pretty chilled out there if your aware. Definitely not as bad as driving a mk3 Escort around London...
I'll put some pictures and videos up soon. I can honestly say I'd have one of those little Cars myself!
