Something of a family heirloom, and I'm not entirely sure that I'm prepped for this, emotionally.
We bought this car in October 2005, with one previous owner (Major utility PLC). We used it as our main family transport for 4 years, racking up 5-600 miles a week before upgrading to a newer version of the same (incidentally from the same source). When we upgraded it was packed off to live with Mrs_Pog's parents, who have used it ever since. Last week I was offered a C-max at a ridiculously cheap price by a mate, so in-laws now have that and this Focus is surplus to requirements.
This car has always been faultlessly reliable, despite now having an interstellar mileage and I would have no qualms at all about jumping in it and driving it anywhere. I don't think there's much in the way of service history, but it's never wanted for anything as Mrs_Pog's brother is a spanner guru who has kept it well-maintained. It's a fairly basic 'LX' spec, but everything works as it should. The car is fitted with a good quality witter towbar, and I can confirm that it is GR8 4 A-framing (including the 'memorable' experience of dragging Seth's Oxford past half the Met police on overtime. LOL!)
Power* comes courtesy of a 1.8-litre 'direct injection' diesel pushing out a whopping 90bhp, so while it's not exactly fast nor refined, it's perfectly capable of yipping down the motorway, and isn't overburdened with electronickery or common-rail TDCi DMF nonsense. It's also ridiculously good on fuel. 45mpg around the doors with more on the longer runs.
Obviously it's a 15-year-old Ford so please expect some scabby bodywork, minor dings and scuffs etc.
At some point it gained 'Zetec' alloy wheels over the original steels (not sure when or why this occurred)
Interior is not too gross, it's not been smoked in, and is relatively clean & tide. In-laws have a ridiculously bouncy spaniel thing, so I need to get a lint roller on the seats and clean the nose-prints off the glass before it goes...
MoT is until September next year so there's plenty of life left in this lovely old workhorse yet.
If I'm honest I'm halfway tempted to find a nice warm, dry barn to tuck it away in for the next ten years / until I have use for it again (delete as applicable) as we all know that once Fords get old they'll be a good investment.
Oh yeah, [PICS]...
