** SOLD **
For sale, my trusty but crusty Merc which sadly failed its MoT at the end of 2015. It failed on one tyre (spare now in its place, though to be fair all four are getting low and leaky), the ESP light is illuminated and there is rust around the offside front lower seatbelt mount. I was quoted £125 to fix the rust by the garage who did the MoT, which included removing the side trim, making good, etc, so you can see it's not a big job. I decided that it had served me well and was time to let it go so did not investigate the ESP light - it could be as simple as one sensor but I've not plugged it in to check.
Owned by me since 25/02/2012, it's been my boringly reliable daily driver and I've taken it from approx 198k miles to its current tally of 246k miles. In that time it has never once let me down! High miles yes, but the engine runs like a Swiss watch with no smoke or oil consumption.
I bought it from a dealer who'd acquired it from a BCA Auction where it had been traded in at a local Mercedes dealer, and it was obvious it had been well looked after. The mileage was warranted and the dealer promised me the full history book was to follow but this never materialised. I acquired a printout from Mercedes to show it had been regularly serviced in its early life and I also have a few receipts from previous owners. But, as I said, when I inspected the car it had all the hallmarks of being well maintained during its life so I wasn't overly concerned. I have every MoT since 2007.
Since buying I have serviced it religiously, and whatever has needed replacing has been done. I have paper receipts for the following during my ownership (and I'm sure there are others for items purchased online);
Door jamb switch
Aero blade wipers
Gearbox oil and filter change
Power steering pump pulley
Air con pipe
Set of 4 tyres
Front brake discs and pads
Rear brake discs and pads
Track rod end
Anti roll bar bushes
Accessory drive belt
Exhaust clamp
Replacement front indicator (due to theft!)
Numerous oil and filter changes (every 10k)
Also, if you're familiar with this particular CDi engine you'll know they're prone to injector leak (aka The Black Death). When I bought this car it was bone dry but developed a leak on no.1 injector over time so, with heart in mouth, I decided to replace all four seals. Thankfully they all came out without issue and were all replaced (after the seats had been recut) using the proper washers, grease and stretch bolts. Recently, no.1 started leaking again so out it came and was replaced by a thicker washer as recommended. The stretch bolt was reused (I know, I know), so this may have to be replaced in time - £3.50 off eBay when required. The good thing is you can be sure they'll come out without issue. Invoices and photos to prove all of this;
Diesel injector seal cutter
Four new stretch bolts
Replacement copper seals
Upgraded clamp
Upgraded washer
Note, all of the hard fuel lines were also replaced (with genuine Merc parts), another common cause of leaks and poor starting. This car fires right up, first time every time.
Now, please take the time to study the photos and the rest of this description - I'm a classic car enthusiast and live at the end of a dirt road, so I've never been overly concerned by the looks and keeping it clean! It's been used to carry gearboxes, engines, washing machines, friends, etc, etc. Clean it isn't, comfortable it most definitely is.
As it's the rollout Elegance Selection model it comes with lots of nice toys and if it doesn't sell for near the asking prince then I'll break it for spares. In summary;
Electric windows
Remote central locking with window closure
Air conditioning (non operational - split lower pipe)
Auxiliary diesel winter heater (non operational - ??)
Parktronic audible / visual parking sensors
Full leather interior
Cruise control
Auto-dimming rear view mirror
Factory Bose stereo with subwoofer (sounds superb!)
Six-disc CD changer (not currently recognising discs - was going to blow out with airline)
Electric heated mirrors (note - despite the button on the dash that are not folding)
Integrated luggage cover and guard net
Removable towbar, etc, etc
Note I am a non-smoker and this car has not been used to carry pets, so no unsightly smells.
