Update 14.08 Real life and the Escort has been slowing me down the last couple of weeks but as the Escort is now at the scrappies i can do some catching up. Here´s the view out of our kitchen window, hasn´t changed much just delete Escort and insert Granada (so my wife says) It´s one of the the last proper Granadas and inmy view it has one of the last proper engines Ford made. 2.8l of Colognes finest The reason i bought it was that it was cheap, had loads of goodies on it, wasn´t expensive, has a 2.8 in it and did i mention, it was cheap!! Nobady has anything to give away these days and although the seller needed it moved quick there was a good reason he was selling it cheap. It´s a non runner and to make it more interesteing it´s been parked up for years and several so called mechanics have had a go at trying to get it to run. I´ve had plenty of time to think about it and after a natter with Totti the other day i made the decision that the best way of moving on is rip out all the electrics and Injection stuff (they´re what´s causing the problems anyway) and convert it to carbs. Good thing is i bought a 2.3 V6 for beer money a couple of months ago and can use the manifold and carbs off that to get the 2.8 up and running, well that´s the plan anyway - watch this space. I haven´t been ignoring the estate completely though, my new shocks turned up the other day so got them fitted.... and the wheels turned up. Now you might find this hard to believe but this is the first set of new wheels i´ve ever bought myself. I know they´re cheap and chearful Chinese rubbish but at 350 quid delivered to Germany it wasn´t worth looking around for a second hand set that needed refurbing. The jury is still out on the gold, i might paint them red but that´ll have to wait until i´m sure they´ll clear the front wings. They´re 7x15 ET 20 so it could be tight. They do fit at the back though Cheers, Dave

Golden wheel centers work on several body colors, but wouldn´t be my choice for red cars. Here black would be my color of choice for the centers (and polished lips). A well approved recepy of Dr.Porsche: But that´s just MHO... I love black wheels but the trouble with black on a basket weave style wheel is you loose all the detail it just becomes a blob of black surrounded by shinney surrounded by blob of black - might as well just have black steels with a silver rim Now a mid grey might work well and not "steel" the detail......... A well approved recepy of Dr.Porsche: But that´s just MHO... I know what you mean mate but i agree with BC on this one. I´m not too sure about the gold either but to be fair in that last pic of mine there are no tyres on the wheel and therefore a bit more gold is showing. We´ll see how i get on once i´ve got the engine back in and the front wings back in place. If the gold doesn´t work i can always repaint them.... Thanks Tom, some nice stuff in there too. Soz couldn´t have put it better myself mate mmm 2 door Granada estate... Good idea mate but definately won´t be happening Have just read all 16 pages Dave - and all I can say is that I am bowled over by your skill. Superb project! That´s very kind of you, much appreciated. I'm biased - gold centres on a red car work.... ...especially on an old Ford Me too. Might be a little bright, though... You might be right mate, i´ll put it all back together, get it running and through the TÜV and classic car engineers report, then i can have aplay with the wheels. Like i said if push comes to shove i´ll give them a onceover withthe spray gun.... Update 16.08 Well i´ve ripped the engine out of the donor and have stripped it down. The previous owner reckoned he´d changed the oil regularly and that it should be ok.... Good job i checked..... and that job it was cheap!!!!!!! Well i´m soaking it all in petrol for a couple of days. These engines are bombproof and i´ve never been let down by one yet, so hopefully after a bit of a cleanup and a carb and 5speed manual gearbox conversion i should be ok. Cheers, Dave Fingers crossed.

Hi! It's always a good idea to look into the oilpan.... When you remove the intake manifold you will find a lot more oil sludge...
But after cleaning it will be OK....its one of the best engines ever..

Dave
My Mojo has been low for a while now, due to new job and other commitments, but seeing this thread, and you working on an old Ford, takes me straight back to the early days, when I first joined this forum and you were working on that Capri
The depth and variety of your projects never cease to amaze me, and in my opinion they completely personify the whole Ethos of Retro Rides, and if ever there's an award for "Lifelong Achievement" to the cause, you will certainly get my vote
Keep up the great work, and can't wait to see the new garage all fitted out
