Morning all! been thinking about a little 'in between' project till I finish my bug I've been offered a 2002 1.4 16v polo & wondered if anyone had fitted a 1.8t into one? Anything tricky about it or is it pretty much like a mk1 /2 golf swap? cheers! Kev

If you buy the complete engine from a 9N3 Polo GTI it's a bolt in conversion (including the wiring loom)

Might be easier to find a crashed 6L Cupra/FR for the full lot to be swapped across. Guy on another forum did that when he crashed his ibiza. Swapped it all into a 1.2 9n

yeah i was going to suggest if you want to spend less find an Ibiza cupra, but i wasn't totally sure it was a straight swap

I never realised the Ibiza cupra bolted into the 6N. It also bolted straight into a caddy van. The Vr6 out of a MK3 golf bolted straight into my caddy, could that also be an option for the 6N?

Pretty sure he talking 9n, not 6n. A caddy is not a 6n polo, neither os a polo estate. They are based on the seats.

The 'polo' caddy is actually a seat inca which is based on a golf. So totally different chassis which is why the VR6 bolts in.

I always thought that the caddy was based on the seat Córdoba or something which is why I got confused about the Ibiza cupra engine fitting in the 6N. I'm not really much help here really, I should probably leave. Check out ClubPolo. I remember a chap in there building a 20VT. Looked a lot of fun. Perhaps there is a build thread or something kicking about on there for refference. I am lead to believe the 1.4 16V on CBR600 carbs can be good fun. Loads of info online for it as well.

they're all very close so it never takes much to get stuff to fit what with the number of them out there being modified

With seat its a very long line of based on. The 'polo' caddy is a Seat Inca which is based on a Cordoba which is pretty much a Jetta/Golf in a modern frock. Lots of platform sharing and hand-me-downs.
