This is the Prospex Mechanix project golf, which is being sold to fund our next project. Car is priced at £675, but we are very open to offers, ideally we need the car taken away by the end of April.
Prospex are an Islington based charity that provide the 'Haynes Mechanix' project to young people from a variety of backgrounds. The Mechanix project has been running for over 3 years and teaches young people car mechanics and personal skills. My partner and I are the mechanical trainers on the project and selling the car on Prospex' behalf.
This Golf GTI was our last project and has had a lot of work undertaken. This includes:
Full service - plugs, oil and filters etc etc
New front shocks
New front brake discs and pads
New rear brake discs and pads
Rear exhaust box
2 new front wings
Strut brace fitted to front
Harnesses fitted
New battery
We undertook some welding to the floor and sills, the shell is absolutely solid now and has been undersealed.
Rear wheel arches were repaired and painted. Plastic trim painted (you won't miss it! Painted orange as this is the Prospex colour). Tyres are good.
The car was prepared with track days in mind, so has no rear seats (we do have them) carpets or sound insulation.
The car runs and drives very well, and had a new clutch at 155k miles (receipt available). Its on about 165k miles now. Occasionally the starter sticks. We have some invoices with the car and the log book.
Car was displayed at the Caledonian Road festival last year to promote the project and received a lot of positive feedback.
If you are looking for a solid base for a track car, then we think this is ideal. As it was prepared for track use the car is not MOT'd, but is prepared for one, as we haven't done anything that prevents it being used on the road.
Do get in touch if any questions, PM me and i'll give you my number. As said above, the car is being sold to fund our next project, looking for a classic project that needs work, open to deals on something suitable, but we only have a small garage!.
Car is located in Islington, London N7. Viewing welcome.
