Very nice, I've had many, many vivas, my first car was an HB, fitted many different engines in it, including a crossflow+type 9 small alteration to the sump and it goes in with no trouble. They're right about the gear lever tho, it interferes with the handbrake a little. but I guess if you move the engine forward and fit a 'front bowl' sump the gear lever would line up with the original hole in the tunnel.

Lovely car. My nephew has one that he's just painted bright orange. Regarding the type 9, you can cut and shorten the gearstick housing and reweld to match the hole. I've done 2 for chevette.

Love Vivas and yours looks really good. I don't like the steering wheel though. Y tho? Thanks lads. Yes the gearbag tunnel will need tampered with, I might be able to cut out the original whole and a bit of excess to the back and then do a 180 and weld it back in. The carbs I'll work out when I get it in...

I don't like the steering wheel though. Y tho? I prefer the feel of a leather wheel to a wooden one, thats all.

Entry #3Nothing much new I'm afraid but more to come soon. I've had the engine in and mounts 1/2 made up but the sump is going to need cut up as mentioned before. I picked up a short shifter from EBay [+ a knob form 70's JCB] and I modded the clutch arm to work with the release bearing which is for some reason too tall, but that's sorted now. Still need an axle if anyone can help...

Entry #4 Hello again.
So, due to not really having anywhere to work on the Viva, it has taken til now to get it anything notable done, I've just been working in our car port, which has no doors... I bought a cheap engine crane and a decent jack to get it done though. The engine and gearbox are in and mounted, I got the driveshaft shortened and adapted and below is a quick video from starting it this mourning for the first time. It start almost first turn, with open headers, my ears are still ringing haha. I don't have great pictures, I'll take more when I've tidied up the engine bay a bit.
Here's the video.
Here's my cold, dark and damp garage.
