some nice spots. I found that the amount of old tin varies by state and region quite a lot. Some places nothing is old, nothing is other than Hyundai, BMW, Toyota. Then further down the highway another town, county, whatever and its all F150s, Mustangs, 60s and 70s barges...

BRYN HERE (still can't log in so I'm Jon's again... ) Haha, sorry for the disappointment Dp, I'll explain on a PM. For everybody else, here's what I ended up buying for my cross continent blast. 1994 Chevrolet G20 conversion van, turns out they don't call them Day Vans over here... Who would have thought it? Four forward facing armchairs and a fold down double bed in the back and a thirsty V8 up front. Cruises comfortably between 65-75 returning late teens to early 20s. I bought it from a Chevy dealer in downtown Columbus, Ohio for $3200 including purchase tax and fees. Then registered it at the DMV for $50... FOR TWO YEARS! Bargin. Whilst there I asked how much a vanity plate would be, so for $35 more I got the plate 'INGLESE' ;D which is being made and posted to a friends address in Utah, which is where I'm currently headed. I saw it on a SO-Cal Corvette featured in SM years ago with Ritchie King riding shot gun. Jon reminded me it was owned by a guy called Rich Parvoni... Chuffed? Too right pal. I spent £75 on reflective UV screens for the windows that I cut to shape, and some bedding for the back, those and a power inverter for now mean I'm self sufficient. Fill up at a truck stop and they'll generally throw in a free shower too, always clean too. Bonus. Lot's of spots to upload when I get a chance, got a few more hundred miles to go tonight, so got to hit the road. So there you have it, I'm currently sat at a 'Kum&Go' gas station in Iowa about to enter Nebraska... A place that nearly killed me eleven years ago. Older... Wiser? Hope so... ;D

*BRYN AGAIN* Thanks for the words guys, keeps my sanity somewhere close. I'm on mountain standard time now, and will hit Denver tomorrow. So pretty much mid way across... Van is running strong and I've had a great days spotting, so after a monster download sesh and resize effort later, I'll lay it all out for you. Max, I'm getting closer.. . (David, it's saying I;m using an invalid username/password combo when I sign in) Loving the van mate - makes us want to do it all again. You know full well you won't be able to bring yourslef to sell it when you finish and have to stuff it on a boat! On the login thing - you still have to sign in as "Irol" - you only changed your screen name to Bryn, not the login...

*Bryn again...* Mk1, I've got a video camera in the back that I've hardly used. In between neck snapping spots, piloting a two ton van and trying to avoid too much country and western on the radio... You've got to take time to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Thanks for the tip Chris, unfortunately that's not a lot of help as I've got the login details saved and they just decided to not work one day. Deleted cookies and tried again... But nah. Oh and that's using Irol of course. Anyway, time for an update, I'm currently sat next to a bowl of house special chow mein in the Renegade Restaurant, southern Wyoming somewhere... Moved roughly 1680 miles since wednesday afternoon, and here's some of the stuff I've seen. Here's some stuff from 'Cars on the hill'... And probably my favourite bumper sticker ever... After my 'ALABAMA' one of course.

Rolling on through Nebraska, I had to face some demons... Made all the sweeter by finding this. 'Chevyland'... Roughly 60-70 motors, mainly Chevy and restored by one guy, loads of old signage and a fair selection of other stuff. Again, got loads of pics, but here's the rough feel for the place. I was a shave away from buying a '68 Impala instead of the van, although I'm glad I went big, this didn't help my help guilt. Monte the owner seemed to have a thing for Rabbits too, sometimes he's in the mood to sell. Other days 'he just digs in', that came from his wife... And this was for sale outside, Camper Special... Next a few road observations...

Spent some time mooching around the 'worlds biggest truckstop', Iowa 80, 225 acres... Immense. Just about the coolest thing there was this Javelin though... Had to show you this too, I was draughting the truck in front at about 70-75mph, and this bad boy was rocking past us at 80+... Staying on the Interstate the whole time is bad for the soul, and after a thousand McD, Flying J and other assorted neon signs, you need to see something fresh. Plus of course all the best spots needed to be hunted out. Like this little lot sited just outside a one stop town called Dix... Which is where I met the one I love, this is my dream vehicle... And just check the size of it compared to the day van alongside.

So what comes next? Loads left, but i've just been kicked out of the Chinese because it's approaching midnight and they want to sleep... And the wifi-foo is too weak in the car park. So I'm going to head in to the high plains darkness and make my way southwest to Salt Lake City. I'll see you all there
