Ahah, they must have heard me... It just came up strong enough to show you a few random road spots... Most of which could have been bought. But there are drier states to be seen yet... Nah... Gone again whilst trying to upload, so I'm gone too.

Bryn, had a boffo time with you and Jon. The operative word is "patina". Noted, absorbed, inculcated, and infused! Hope to recce with you on the return loop. MC Museum, USAF Museum, etc etc. Shall it be Little Kings, Honey Brown, Sam Adams, or some other we get on ice?
Enjoy the ride! Family says howdy. ("Daddy, who were those guys?") LOL

JON SPEAKING FOR ONCE! Managed to shut traveller Boy Writer up for 5-mins now I'm back in Blighty - god I wish I was still there! This is how I left the beaming tw4t! On the way back to Chicago I stopped by my old mate kenny Miller who used to crew with Ohio George and this is what I saw... Yep that's a steel Willys Coupe, gasser style on real Halibrands, with this under the bonnet, sorry hood... Just a Chrysler hemi on a tunnel ram... Oh and in his other garage there's this... But that just has a big block in it. What it is to e in the right place at the right time eh? Bought thrity years ago for $200! Makes you sick. But then Kenny's a top bloke and almost had to be persueded to show me his cars....

Yo amigos...
Nice shots Jon, as for the beaming tw4t, wouldn't you be with a CB radio behind you and that much velour? Shame I couldn't come down that way with you. I was expecting old time stuff, but they are proper sweet...
As for you Norm, glad we could share some professional knowledge with you. Seemed only fair after you gave us such an amazing week that we also introduced you to cockney rhyming slang. Gypsy's kiss anybody? ;D
As for the return loop, oh yes, I'll be back. Done 2K in the van now and all seems okay, might need a new motor though so don't go misplacing that engine you've got tucked away anytime soon...
As for the plate, the tags they gave me to put on them when they arrive have got 'licking' written on them. ACE.
But as for those Merkur guys... They're...
NO, they really are.
;D

Okay guys, sorry for the in-joke stuff there... Back on track now with a daily spot-o-rama. After leaving Nebraska, I climbed northwestly up into Wyoming, big open, rolling countryside. After Nebraska it was good to see something that wasn't flat... I got up to an elevation of about 6000ft above sea level on Interstate 80, and slept for the night in a rest stop. Pretty cold after the last couple of nights were all I needed was a sheet over me. It dropped down to about 12 degrees, so it was pretty fresh and the wind kept reminding me of that... I've never been to Wyoming before, as the last time I did this route we branched south for Denver and Colorado. But it's a beautiful place so I'm glad the route took me this way. Especially when I came across this guy, Mel Gould. I'd need a book and picture library to explain him to you all. Inventor, avante garde artist and all round eccentric. I spotted a yard full of stuff from the interstate and the two vehicles I'll show you... But the real gems were underneath his house... This first pic is just part of a labyrinth of workshops he calls 'Buryville'. A sunken 55,000 gallon fuel container. Down here he crafts away, calling himself a 'Pack Rat'. Scavenging whatever he can from wherever he can. From his home fuel system that runs on used sump oil, to his wind vane powered compressor and his patented ground anchoring system used by landscape artist Christo, he can tell a story or ten. Here's one of his first vehicles, four wheel steer and four wheel driven... It was called the 'Purple People Eater'... (looks at Jon ) And here are just two of his creations, all around the place were weather vanes made from old bike tanks and steel toe caps, oil drums and valves, springs and flywheels. The Brute, part Kaiser, part Willy's, part truck. All great. And this used to be his daily driver, so he could be a back seat driver... You can make out the four room house in the background? Well the underground part extends almost to where he's stood

Right now I'm in Mendon, Utah. Staying with a guy called Burly Burlile who I met last year at Bonneville, he's an old time racer with pictures, cinefilm and stories to fill a week. We've been out scouting around the Cache Valley today, where he lives, looking for 'stuff'... We found loads and I took pictures, but now it's late again and I've got to sleep. It might be a while before I get chance to upload again, but when I do it should be good. I'm off to Bonneville tomorrow for three days, and I'll be camping at 'roads bend' right next to the salt. Then the Silver State Classic at the weekend, 140miles south in Ely. Officially the fastest road race in the world, 90 miles of closed off two lane and a whole load of amazing machinery. I'm hopefully going to be doing 200mph + in a 870bhp '06 Mustang on Sunday, so keep your spanners crossed for me...
