My pride and joy is sadly up for sale. Two young children and the need for a bigger boot has forced me to a decision I will almost certainly regret, especially with prices for E39 M5's rising steadily.
So the details. 4.9L V8. Its is a 1999 T reg with 134300ish miles on the clock. Over the past 3 years of ownership the car has had love, attention, and most importantly lots of money spent to upgrade and maintain what is an incredible machine. In that time my receipts total over 4K. (don't tell the wife!) I set about replacing virtually every single suspension component on the car including new shocks from bmw, it now rides and feels like it just rolled out of the factory in Germany. It is in a super rare combo of Oxford green Metallic (324) and heritage caramel extended nappa leather(M3CR), with bruyere club wood trim. There were only 46 Oxford green cars made between 98 and 03 and only a small selection with caramel leather.
The car has a comprehensive traceable service history with 18 stamps in the book, including the all important running in service. The history is a mix of BMW dealer and BMW specialist. In my ownership it had an inspection 2 and an oil service at a well renowned specialist in Chepstow who is an ex bmw master technician.
The only non-standard modifications to the car are silencer delete(see below), short shift kit from a e60 545, which gives a lovely short throw between gears, as opposed to the truck like shift they have as standard and the CD system has been removed in favour of a dice ipod adapter which sits just to the left of the drivers chair. This works with the controls on the steering wheel. All 4 door speakers have been upgraded to nice 2way in-phase units. Black front grill, will come with original chrome if you prefer that look.
I have slowly been working my way through a list of minor repair niggles, these include;
Folding drivers mirror not working, removed, repaired with new internals, now fixed.
Badly faded lights giving poor light output, replaced with genuine facelift 'angel eyes'.
Front under tray/splitter was in a poor condition, was been removed repaired and is now perfect.
Ipod unit had been wired to permanent supply meaning it drained the battery if left plugged in, now corrected to work off an ignition supply by my auto electrician.
Passenger heated seat not working, now fixed.
Dash pixels missing, taken out sent for refurbishment, now perfect.
Good Points. - All the following have been completed during my ownership
- New rear discs, pads, shoes
- New Hel braided brake hoses front and rear, fluid flush
- Wheels stripped and refurbished in original shadow chrome
-New clutch master cylinder
-Front end complete poly bushed
-Rear ARB poly bushed
-New front center and both tie rod ends plus new pitman arm and steering arm bushing
-New OEM BMW shocks front and rear, including top mounts, spring pads and all other shock accessories at a fitted cost of nearly 2K!!
-New front wishbones, control arms and anti roll bar drop links.
-New rear wishbones, integral links, ball joints, guiding suspension links and anti roll bar drop links
-Prop shaft center bearing replaced and guibo bush inspected
-Air con booster fan replaced
-New battery
-Upgraded speakers
-New genuine bmw rubber mats
-Cargo net in boot
-4 wheel alignment carried out
Cruise control, climate, electric memory drivers seat, heated seats, lumbar support, staggered 18" genuine style 65 alloys, electric tilt and slide sunroof, bmw professional rds radio, tyre pressure control, dynamic stability control, front armrest, auto dim side mirrors, auto dim rear view mirror, on board computer, multi function steering wheel, sports button, anthracite headlining, white indicator lights, electric steering wheel, rear extended console.
Nearly new Goodyear eagle F1 Asymmetrical tires all around
3 working keys and about an inch thick file of paperwork
Car has had the rear silencer delete Mod done. Best thing ever in my opinion, releases the proper V8 sound BMW decided to smother. Its not quiet, but not ASBO loud and doesn't drone in the cabin at speed. If its not your thing, replacement back boxes can be sourced for around £100, they are very heavy!
Car can/will come with a spare full set of matt black wheels in correct staggered sizes, to be negotiated in price.
Car was serviced in December and has 4 green lights on the dash service indicator. It has an MOT until May 2018 but a retest can be negotiated in price if buyer wants a fresh ticket.
Bad points - it is 18 years old so has a couple
The sunroof decided a few weeks ago that it wasn't going to slide any more. It attempts to then sounds awful so I have stopped trying. Sounds like its come off the runners to me but i don't have time to delve. Tilt still works perfectly
The bottom of the drivers door has rust and a small section of the boot lid. I do however have a complete spare door and boot in my garage waiting to be fitted in correct oxford green colour with absolutely no rust. Again I just don't have time to fit these myself.
The car is not in complete showroom condition, it has been used and enjoyed and has a few blemishes that a keen eye will pick up but to be honest it polishes up really well and the interior is really nice. Both vanos units rattle on start up then are nice and quiet when the oil fills them and the clutch is is perfect.
Thanks for your time and for reading what has turned out to be an epic advert! I'm sure there's lots I have forgotten so feel free to contact me with questions.
Please contact me to come and view the car. No test pilots, time wasters, scammers etc... If I think you are a genuine buyer you may get the privilege of driving it with proof of insurance.
