My Folks didn't really have any ugly cars, but I guess the ugliest of the lot where these two, both owned by my Dad. The first one was a Peugeot 505 estate, like this... ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5180/5409031088_5917c3bd2c_b.jpg) Bought brand new, and after owning it for about six months my dad suddenly noticed that at the front it was G719 DPR, and at the rear it was G720 DPR! This was followed up by a Granada Scorpio estate, like this... ![](http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pistonpopper/61b66bc7b5ca.jpg) Which everyone, and I mean everyone said was ugly. Funnily enough I thought it was a good looking car! But what it was to me was the first car that I drove over 130mph in! Eventually knocking on 140!

my dad had an austin cambridge A50, which isnt "ugly" per se, but must have been a bit curse word being a "Ted" in the late 50s settling down and selling your triumph thunderbird to get it.

Austin Allegro Mk3 yeuch That was replaced by a Fiat Regata, a bit better looking but my dad spent more time under the bonnet fixing it than driving it Agree, I cant seem to find any fondness for the leggie either

I still love a Talbot Rancho! My moma nd dad both had pretty decent cars. My dad was a Ford man through-and-through and in the 60's he had various Corsairs and Consuls, and then got into the Cortina. Had a decent model of each until I was old enough to recognise and remember the cars (early 70's), at which point he had a Cortina GXL. That car though, had so many faults and had to keep going back that he lost his love for Ford and embraced Japanese cars, starting with big Datsuns, then Nissans, Mitsubishis and ending his driving career with Rover before retiring and embracing his inner Kia/Hyundia zen. So all in all he never really had any particularly ugly cars aside from these two, and I actually quite like the Datsun Laurel as a sort of 70's Kojak vehicle... (mom's car history was pretty respectable... Always a Ford Anglia until the late 70's, then Austin Minis, then Austin Metros thereafter)

Nothing that was uncool because they were ugly, but because they were just old bangers:
Singer Chamois 2x FD Victor (one saloon, one estate) Triumph 2000 Mk1 2x Mk1 Escort (one saloon, one estate) Then Dad started riding bikes, and Mum had: 2x Rover 2200SC Volvo 244DL Datsun Cherry N10 - actually, that was quite uncool, and then I bought one...

Agreed, and me too. I've often looked at ads for Scorpio Ultimas and thought they are pretty bad ss cars in their own way. They've been dirt cheap too at times but the thing that's always stopped me is that they were so unloved at the time, and mostly executive workbarges, that they are likely to have not been well looked after.

When I was a kid my mom traded in a Jeep CJ5 for one of these ![](https://i0.wp.com/www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/1977-Ford-Wagons-07.jpg) The whole family cried. We hated it.

After years of smartly styled peugeots finishing with a nicely specced 306 dt, my dad came home with a mitsubishi space star, 1.3 petrol. It even had some dubious "optional extra" 15 inch alloys which showed the rear drums off beautifully.

There were cars I didn't like back when I was a child, not necessarily ugly, just unloved. Irony is that those same cars are the ones I'd love to own now.... OK the Datty 180B estate, less so the battleship grey Renault 12...

After a cortina mk3 2000GLX and an early rover SD1 came the automotive grandfather clock that was the Volvo 264GLE! The Jimmy Hill of cars! Apparently it was my mums choice, I know my dad never liked it, he would have been about 30 at the tine so driving this must have been pretty uncool! it was never very reliable, dropped second gear so had to be screamed through first before it dumped into third. I remember the V6 sounding pretty good and at the age of six not being able to pull the back doors shut due the them being so heavy. Once it died he got a Vauxhall Royale and then a Scimitar that he still claims is his all time favourite car

Weird, there are no family cars from my childhood and adolescence that I don't remember with fondness, (including an Allegro!) Many of the cars people are flagging up above are examples I'd be happy to own and drive, horses for courses I suppose.

My family was carless after I was 8 years old so not embarrassing parents cars for me.
But I had an '84 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon (think Griswalds) with the fablon side panels and chrome roofrack which MY children refused to be seen in! Still not sure to this day whether that was bad taste on their part - or mine!
