Hello.
In anticipation of some Summer tootling I have purchased my fourth Porker.
However, some news has prompted a revision of what was going to be...the best laid plans of mice and men etc.
So, before the sun comes out and the prices start rising here is your chance to get yourself into classic Porsche ownership (and believe me it is perfectly affordable done right).
Here's the science bit....
Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet 1990 3.0L
165k miles
12 owners
3.0L 16v engine
6000 mile service, hood service, ABS overhaul & brake fluid service and valet as of January 2018
Complete remote central locking and alarm system overhaul (March 2017)
Guards Red
Porsche turbo twist wheels
Updated momo steering wheel
Almost a completely full service history
And here's the pitch..
Firstly, if you are looking for the ultimate version of a 944 S2 Cabriolet then this is not the car for you.
Fast Classics have had an 8k mile 'collectible' up for £40,000 since December 2017 - that is the sort of car to buy if you are an investor or serious collector.

Alternatively for a pretty nice one you are looking at £15-20k. I five years ago I could have had one of those for £7k.,,,
So just to be completely clear, this car is in great condition, has an almost entirely full service history with the full book, stamps until 1998 and receipts and MOTs since 1995.
However it has had 12 owners in the last 28 years and has 163,500 miles on the clock which is rising through use. It is not a concours winning car (although that is always a rather subjective description - one man's 'concours winner' is another man's 7/10) but it is a good version, with straight lines, a working hood /roof and a quality interior.
Despite the above average miles, the car itself drives well with a silky smooth clutch and gearbox and a nice strong engine. It pulls well, and feels very well balanced, it is crash free and original in almost every aspect (bar mentioned below).
The car has 'Porsche turbo twist' non original wheels which update it pleasantly from the dire D90s that are frankly the ugliest wheels Porsche ever made. No amount of retro nostalgia can save them! This car also has the ugly late 80s steering wheel replaced with a Momo sports wheel which feels fabulous and is well worth the extra £300 or so what was spent.
The carpets and general interior are good but could do with a shampoo, but if you suffer from OCD a new set would be nice, however it is not essential. The stereo has been upgraded at some point to a very swanky model with a little remote control and the sound is pleasant albeit I wish people didn't update stereos.
The car was treated in March 2017 to a fully specced up remote central locking and alarm system which is very useful and can bring down the insurance premium with some classic insurers (Lancaster, Adrian Flux, etc).
Is it 'retro cool?'
Only you can decide that.
It is of an age where parts can be easily and cheaply replaced, so that's a plus.
As of Q3 2017 only 238 S2 Cabriolet's remained on the road and this number is dropping by approximately 10% per year. Only 81 of those 200 are 'late revision' (1990+ cars) with the uprated engine, so it's not exactly a common sight.
Summary
In summary whilst you can go and spend £40k on a humdinger, or you can spend £3k on a 924 - this late 994 S2 in the most sought after combination is in my opinion a fast appreciating classic that has benefitted from a slight exhaling of the aircooled bubble.
As a 964 (x 2) owner I'm not over the moon about this but there comes a time when we must all admit we don't really need more than at least three Porsches. if this makes you feel a bit resentful rest assured that they are not all in the condition of this one - and if I had fewer this would be a keeper.
The car will have shortly benefitted from an £800, 6000 mile service - including plugs, oil change, hood service, ABS overhaul and brake fluid change so it should be good to go for another 20k miles and probably many more (remember these were the cars that saved Porsche from extinction). The car has also been independently inspected by Williams Crawford Porsche Specialists in Saltash, Cornwall with a view to providing an independent view of the car for any prospective buyer.
For what it is worth I have regularly attended RR events in a variety of retro cars and i'm fairly well known in the retro scene in the Southwest (code for I wont rip you off).
Priced to sell now, in Spring I will be £3k more (sorry) Further pictures available upon request.
Piccywics!(apologies iphone only for now)
