For sale is my trusty old 1996 (N) Volvo 940 diesel estate. It's fitted with the rare VW D24TIC straight-six turbo-intercooled diesel engine mated to a ZF 4-speed automatic transmission. This is the last of the real Volvo's, being rear wheel drive and from before the Ford takeover. 208,000 miles and used daily for a 40 mile commute.
MOT until November 2018.
It has 4 electric windows, electric sunroof, electric mirrors and heated front seats! Has a towbar and twin electrics.
I had a custom side-exit exhaust system fitted to release a bit more of the straight-six growl (I still have the original exhaust so can easily be returned to standard).
I bought it to replace my Impreza WRX as a stop gap car and ended up keeping it for 2 years and almost 30k miles! It has taken my family to Cornwall, Norfolk and even across to Paris.
This week I had it serviced again, including fully synthetic oil, oil filter and air filter. The tyres all have loads of tread. There's lots of service invoices and documentation with it.
It's very clean and straight as you can see from the photos. It starts first time in all weathers and is a very practical modern classic that's more than capable of keeping up with modern day traffic (127bhp and weighs less than a Focus - yes, really!).
If you're after a very refined, quiet car, look elsewhere. This is an indirect injection diesel engine that Volvo sourced from the 1970s VW LT vans, with a Bosch fuel pump and the addition of an intercooler and turbo. But it is reliable, easy to maintain, swift and comfortable. And you're isolated from the engines cacophony on the inside.
I've had a silencer fitted since this video.
