I've been thinking about this for a long time and although I'm probably on the wrong forum for this I figured that it was probably about time for a thread of pictures of Hot-Rods. It is generally accepted that a hot-rod is a 1948 and earlier body style that has been modified for enhanced driving performance, top speed, and/or to accelerate faster. More form over function than pretty paint and wheels, but I'm open to the shiny stuff as much as the form over function stuff. I've been an armchair Hot-Rodder for as long as I can remember, and I pretty much like all styles, even the tasteless stuff of the late seventies and early eighties! Anyhoo, I'll lead off with my version of a Hot-Rod, which to date is my only Hot-Rod type car. My '32 Ford roadster pick up (replica). Lets see more pictures of Hot-Rods!!

I occasionally go to the hot rod shows And every time I do it gets me thinking "I need one of them" I've always had a thing for them since I was at school and the ZZ Top album came out For me it would need to be more function over form so it would have to have a roof This is England after all it's no point having something you can't use if it rains But if I could buy or build anything in the class of hot rods it would have to be a Willys coupe Not quite an everyday car but still useable

Hotrods come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but to me certain types just scream 'right'. Usualy black, grey, or red oxide works for me. Or a bit more raw I don't even care what colour this one is

I've always been into classic cars, but for some reason hot rods had never been in my radar. A few years ago something changed. I'm lucky enough to live about 40 mins from Pendine Sands. One day whilst driving on the A48 I saw these hot rods coming the other way. They really stole my attention. I've been down to see them the last 3 years and love the look. I can't say I know one car type from the other, but the grotty ones just look right for they're age

I quite fancy having a go at building something like this, when (if) my other project gets completed. I'm pretty sure you can get replica fibreglass bodies easily enough but what about chassis's? Is it possible to make anything that looks right from a commonly available (cheap) ladder chassis? I'm thinking something like an SWB Pajero or Ford Ranger?

If you want just the look, and are not too worried about it looking perfect there are lots of chassis about, metrocab taxis and stuff like that. Mine started out as a Cortina based Dutton kitcar... It's not a perfect '32 Ford, and the suspension components give that away, but I think it looks pretty cool, and I'm happy with it.
