******************Track Booking Now Closed****************
People of RR – it’s time for the Retro-Rides Goodwood Weekender “Track Activity” thread
The Track Activity takes place only on the Saturday - On the Sunday it will be a spectacular "car park" comprising of club cars from all over the UK and as a result it's probably best that we don't use the track on the Sunday
Firstly - welcome to this thead from myself and gewy who look after the paddock (and of course Mrs Gewy who looks after the sign-on the day aspect)
Secondly – as any questions come in we will take the opportunity to use this first post to update with any clarifications.
Thirdly - Both morning and afternoon sessions will be sold in advance of the event
Finally - Rules/requirements for 2018 differ to previous events and as always are specific to the venue.
New Venue
Yep it’s a new venue for us all and we are going back to a “Sprint” type format for the track activity (It’s not the first time an RR event has done this type of activity - people who attended Mallory in 2007 and subsequent RR Gathering events at Haynes will know we’ve run events in this format before but every event brings new challenges.
What do we look for in the cars that apply
We look for a representative cross section of our diverse community - we have just 40 spaces in the morning and 40 in the afternoon - this is less than we would run at a Gathering event because we have some mad Thundersaloons and Modsport cars taking out some of the track time before lunch and again at the end of the day.
Variety is the spice of life - this is clearly demonstrated in AB Car Pix photos below
We take a "Noah Approach" what we mean by that is ideally we'd like no more that 2 of the same vehicle for morning and no more than 2 of the same vehicle for the afternoon - this is to limit what can happen in terms of specific marque clubs hammering in applications because of word of mouth outside this forum.
We also decline applications for both morning and afternoon for the same reason - it wouldn't be fair to others (we always tell people who would like both morning and afternoon that they should take a morning slot and if we have any drop outs for the afternoon we would consider dropping them in as replacements in the afternoon but there is no guarantee - it does however happen in very small numbers)
We also try to limit accepting applications from cars that have done the event several times in the past, however this is not a rule as such more a guide and let me explain why just a few cars frequently get approved even if they have done the event before.
If we had 80 cars and drivers that all have never done the event before we'd have a bloody tough time keeping control in the paddock - so there are a few "old hands" (I might get a slap for that because they aren't old) that we would welcome to ever event because they help in the paddock background to calm nerves and explain to drivers who haven't done the event before how it's going to work, to take the first run to understand the venue and to build the speed up gradually - those people know who they are and how much we value their help in this area - they can also pedal their respective cars very well and know their limits so we can trust them to respect the track)
We should also add they are not "mates" of us or any of the RRG team but people who have provided guidance to newbies before without being asked and were happy to continue to do that when asked.
Application Process
So this year the process HoTWire has been developing for the clubs (and club cars) entry process and has expanded it to accommodate the Track activity so things are a little different from previous years
So if you want to apply for the track action you need to follow the link below
When system goes live a link will be found here
Because of the sprint format and the fact that 5 cars are on track at the same time (set off at intervals) we will need to group applications to match abilities and car performance so the application process will be open for approx 3 weeks - you will receive acknowledgement of your application being received and then after 3 weeks everyone will be notified (successful or not)
You will need to have the following information to hand to populate the form
Name Real one (not forum handle)
Full Address Details inc Post Code
Details of your car Make, model, Registration number & engine capacity and induction
Modifications Anything interesting we should know
Which session you want: Either Morning or Afternoon (can't do both)
Where you heard about the booking process (eg RR Forum, Facebook, Instagram etc – If Facebook brought you to this thread then that’s the answer we are looking for
RR Forum ID Optional
Driven to the event or trailered
We have limited space for trailers so we want to know upfront if cars are not being driven to the event
Hopefully the process will also allow you to upload a picture of your car
The rules
Track time is £45 for either morning or afternoon session. You can't pre-book for both.
We aim for you to get three runs on track this is however time and attendee behaviour conditioned. Morning and Afternoon sessions are the same length.
IMPORTANT - You will require a show entry ticket
Vehicle must be We are looking for entries from cars that are Pre-1995 but we may be "flexible up to a very firm cut off 1999" - nothing newer thanks it's not our sort of thing*
*Note: there is some wiggle room with this, late registered examples of cars that were being manufactured before 1995 as an example, so do your application if you think you can squeeze in and let us work out what fits on the track
Noise Limits
105dB static, 101dB drive past.
Drivers
On the day any driver will need to have with them
- Valid Driving licence (Photocard or old style Paper one) - if you have lost or miss-laid either then you can get print out (screen print) from DL Check - Click Here To access DL info you do need Driving licence number, National Insurance Number and Post Code.
Need to show DL at sign on, complete an indemnity and attend drivers briefing before the session start.
No requirement for proof of MOT or Insurance at this event.
- Helmets - Mandatory
It's your head in it - if it's suitable for use on a motorcycle it's OK for this event - the track activity is not timed or in any way a competition but we need to comply with Goodwood requirements.
We are not sure if we will be able to provide/hire Helmets at Goodwood as soon as this is clarified we will update this thread but for now assume you need to bring your own helmet.
Passengers
Vehicles can have one driver and one passenger – so two people max
Co-drivers (people sharing driving one car)
Need to just show DL at same time as driver books in, sign an indemnity on the day and attend drivers briefing before the session start.
No age or height restriction on passengers but they reserve the right to review this on the day and they must be wearing suitable seatbelts that fit properly.
Seat Belts
Seat belts if fitted are to be worn.
Trailered and non road legal vehicles
Cars arriving on trailers require permission in advance – we have very limited space for trailers and quite frankly they are a PITA to deal with so don’t think we will automatically say yes to a trailered car – we won’t.
As a result of Goodwood being a motor racing circuit we have no restrictions on non-road legal vehicles however it brings with it a requirement for scrutineering so we are able to strike a balance at this event – it will be a balance.
Confirmation of conditions – ie the car entered is one that goes on track – no substitutions of post 2000 ie modern (Please note a retro alternative would be acceptable)
Refunds and cancellations
As a result of a number of cancellations at the last event we are implementing a cancellation policy – up to two weeks before the event will refund and offer the space to reserve – after that point we will not refund.
Event Timings
Details of Event timings for both morning and afternoon will be added here.
