I just don’t understand why you’d bother deleting yourself, surely it’s easier to just not come to the site. I’ve been a member on various forums for specific makes of cars, which I no longer own, so just don’t visit those forums any longer, but I have never deleted myself off any of them. It’s nice I’ve had a mention a few times in this thread though........ rattle can, you get it, you get it? 😂

Retro rides for me was the site where everybody got it, all my mates were into big bodykits and neons but for me a perfect car was low on a cool set of rims which they couldn't understand?? I showed this site to a good mate of mine and he said yeah I get It now. It also opened my eyes to cars which I would never had looked at previously. I'm a huge ford fan but I've gained loads of inspiration from here to do something different with cars no matter what make they are. I've read a lot of the readers ride threads which aren't ford related because I love retro cars, classic cars, cars in general! Keep the builds coming I say whatever it is.

It's a shame he left but tbh if you can't find something to interest you on here you're probably not looking hard enough. I've just clicked on the recent threads and among other things there's a datsun powered Imp,Fg truck, scimitar and the vulgalour fleet. The @grumpynorthener Jowett thread mentioned surely even if you're not interested in them the hints/tips have got to be worth reading the thread for, anyway this is retro rides not retro modified so all are welcome. To those who put the time and effort into making threads, even the ones I don't read,I'd like to say thanks without you I'd be staring at a blank page

I like the content of this forum enough to not bother looking anywhere else. To echo what moorhen said it contains all the things i like about cars that no one else I know could understand, and all the other things about cars that I didnt even know. And I cant think of any reason not to come back. If I post something on here and someone likes it, great, if they don't, great, id rather share it than expect everyone to tell me how wonderful my post was. As they say, no news is good news or something.
So I'm logging of now everyone and I wont be back until.... um........ later probably.

I've been a lurker on here since about 2009 and signed up in 2015. My opinion (for what it's worth) so please don't shoot me down, is this. Years ago you had the builds that some are moaning about, but you also had the builds where a bloke in a shed built a car using a lot of skill, a lot ingenuity and a lot of parts. This is the bit I loved.
In recent years with the more stringent enforcement of the BIVA nonsense people are either going to be put off building the type of project car I like to see, or if they are going to build it they're hell of a lot less likely to advertise it on the internet.
This I think will naturally water down the type of build we're going to see. It's not going to stop me reading about other people's builds though.

It seems some of the original people have become quite narrow minded Just a point of order, Elwoody wasn't one of the "original people", but I do know what you are saying (although I disagree with it). Here is my thought, sometimes a break is needed from just about anything. I take a break from the forum occasionally, just to get some space and a bit more motivation to head back in again. February and March are the worst months as an admin and content creator on the forum, every year something blows up. As for the attitude of the forum I have to say there are cars on here that I'm a bit meh about, there are definitely threads in general that I don't understand the popularity of, but that is kind of the point of a big melting pot of people. The trick is to ignore them. The danger is in confirmation bias, like you see something you don't like, for example (let's take this old school) rattle can paint and chopped springs, that sticks in your brain and you browse the forum perhaps another twenty or thirty threads and numerous posts you go through and then it pops up again, this happens a couple of times and you go away thinking well Retro Rides is nothing but rattle can paint and chopped springs. You are very wrong, you just saw it four times out of eighty threads, but that is your bias in action. Elwoody has a great example, there was a shockingly bad rod posted in the Show Me Hot Rods thread, he highlighted it out of a post that had 35 other pictures in it, then a couple of people commented that is wasn't good, but there was a 3D rendering of an idea that was similar that wasn't terrible. That was it. When he wrote his "what the hell happened to the forum" post he cited this as a drop in the quality of the forum, but it was one picture of 35, in one reply of over 30+ replies at that point. It was then pulled out to be commented upon rather than just ignored by the very person that was then complaining about the quality of the forum. So it actually appears in the thread a couple of times, when it should have just been ignored and better stuff posted. Conduct yourself in a positive manner etc. etc. etc. Anyway. Have a shiny Mercedes. Why's the suspension broke?

don't get it... why spit your dummy over naff-all??! there is constantly so much variety on rr that if you cant find something to float your boat then you need your bumps reading! re reading my post , it sounds like I'm having a personal dig at el w , I'm not...not really!. I always enjoyed his threads and posts but it was my choice to read/partake in them but there are also plenty others that I merrily skip past. its a simple enough procedure and my point was that deleting your account , presumably in some kind of protest , is a tad puerile.

I don't know Elwoody at all, if he doesnt like whats here any more thats fine, if he doesnt want to take part any more thats also fine.
To make a big fuss by spreading negativity then storming off in the huff isnt nice. Its comes across like trying to spoil it for everyone because he doesnt want to play any more.
RR is by far the best place on the internet for variety of retro stuff. Its also the best forum format and a very well managed forum.
I don't like every car that gets posted, I look at the stuff I do like. I maybe could contribute more, I have only had one build thread on here but thoroughly enjoyed it and the encouragement I got, and needed when it was hard going.
What I'm not going to do is complain that there isnt enough of what I like, I'll just look at what I want, and maybe if I think there could be something new I'll post it. (Ive been meaning to start one thread for ages when I sort the pics out).
Some people moved on, some other people arrived, thats life, not the end of the world, or even a problem.

I am a fairly recent member here - I've been posting on here for about 18 months. I am on here because I like cars. A lot of different cars, but modified classics particularly float my boat. I like big old lorries too, and big engines stuffed into small things. I also like well-restored "normal" vehicles. I am a petrolhead. I am also a member on a few different forums. I have always been into Minis (had one as my first car, owned 7 of them plus my current Midas), but have also had more modern VWs. I was a very regular poster on the Golf Gti forum but don't go on there much now because it isn't the same as it once was. I still have my account and pop in from time to time. And I think that is the crux of the matter here: "The Good Old Days". It generally refers to a period in your life where everything was fun, and having good time was something that happened every damn day. I used the Golf GTi forum almost every day for several years, but the same thing happens with any forum you're on: you get "natural wastage" where users lose interest, buy different vehicles that don't "fit in" with that forum's ethos or have a fall-out with another member. It happens - I suppose you could say it's the evolution of the forum user. Also there is possibility where an accidental fall-out occurs when something is said unintentionally and it upsets another user - I had this happen on another forum where I queried why someone had modified a vehicle a certain way on an eBay link - turns out it belonged to a fellow user who had done the work (to a high standard, I stress) and was somewhat dismayed by my comments. Apologies were sent and a lesson was learned. As a result I am far more tolerant of the work others have done, and try not to criticise. Some things I just don't get, such as stretched tyres, excessive lowering (VWs) and the Rat look. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the work though. I get the feeling that ElWoody has simply fallen out of love with what he once held so dear. Things change, and I guess this forum just not his bag right now. I loved doing Mini Club stuff 20 odd years ago, but the reason I walked away from it all was because there wasn't anything new for me. This forum gives me back something - the sheer variety of different vehicles available to view, discuss and comment on. A quick glance at the Readers Rides pages the other day gave me a V8 Avenger, a Citroen BX, a Hillman Imp, a Mini, a Princess and a Noble to name but a few. You're unlikely to find a more eclectic mix of cars anywhere else - and most are modified in some way. And that's exactly why I like this place - people see these vastly different vehicles and either shrug and ignore them or praise their owners, and show a great interest in all they have to offer. There's precious little put-downs here. I like it. And I for one am sticking around - it's my kind of place.

This thread goes the same way like the one hotwire refered to, the one by automatik (=elwoody)? So before it gets locked, too, I want to leave a comment.
I only did a few posts so far and already was given a quote from the opus moderandi about nothing cosntructive to say say nothing.
I came here orginally because of that lada thread of a certain vagvaz, who quit here recently, too.
Funny how the same people acted there like in here or in that automatik thread I mentioned in the beginning: throwing stones after somebody who has already left the scenery!
Seems like those guys feel a bit miffed?

Which part of ,"If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say it" , didn't you understand then?
As for Elwoody, it sad to see him go, hopefully to return at some point soon. He was really good at posting things that most of us have seen, but never really looked at...

Seems like those guys feel a bit miffed? No one is throwing stones (at least I don't think they are). People have been coming and going on this forum for the past thirteen years. Some quietly, some with a big "look at me I'm leaving". Communities move around, times move on. Although I'd happily trade a few folk for racer86 to return ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Seems like those guys feel a bit miffed? I think there's always bound to be negativity in any forum of this nature. On here it's perhaps quite well camouflaged, passive aggressive mini-tantrums, disenfranchisement by censorship, etc. Ironically, criticising someone for not being positive is obviously inherently negative, I'm not sure those who do it can see the hypocrisy? I'll admit to being a bit prickly from time to time, I don't think there are legions of people on here who are in the running for sainthood!
