I don't feel a great deal of love for this scene. It's a bit much for me old eyes I think. I just don't understand. But I am more than happy to be educated!! Most of the time by learning and listening some sort of appreciating will develop....

Bosozoku is definately out there. It was originally to do with gang culture but has moved on to the youth scene in Japan. I have to say I don't really get it...

So the bosozoku cars are influenced in style by in-period race cars, a bit like us over here having Alan Mann inspired Escorts, except in Japan they tend to take things a little further. You can see the wide body influence in the earlier cars too There are actually a number of sub styles within what a lot of people call bosozoku stuff, the grachan (or garuchan) style tends to be the super super extreme stuff with huge six foot wings, at the other end shakotan style is often lumped in with bosozoku style, but really it is just the more common lowered modified cars. There are also street racing styles of cars and a million of things that feed into what we think of as bosozoku style cars. As well as of course the actual bosozkou cars, which are built as a mix of these outrageous racing cars and the bosozoku bikes who they ran with It is a really interesting (and occasionally dark) culture that in its original form is vanishing now in Japan, however the style and influence live on. Personally I find them aesthetically pleasing and a lot of fun.

I love the wackiness of it and how it harks to the old racers Now imagine this modified further with a shark nose etc and it would be the perfect European version

Thanks for that. I may still not "get it", but at least I can see the connection now. I'd missed that before. Good simple explanation for a good simple expat!
