Couple of nice looking Volvo V90's on ebay at the moment.
As we have strayed in to slightly more modern territory what about a Lexus IS200 Sportcross (thats estate to you and me)? According to Parkers they all have isofix as standard, cheap to buy now but seem to be more honest examples about than with the saloons. Relatively modern as a daily driver but not so modern as to need a laptop to fix it.

Only real downside i can see is that the towing limit seems to be a weedy 1200kgs, even for the 3.0 version.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, 6 pages is a bit much to trawl through but....
Modern car seats are a PITA in lifted vehicles, unless you can get in there with them. Putting seats in my father in law's Hilux means contorting yourself in all sorts of shapes to get the seatbelt clipped in, and then the shape of the door frame means that you've got to fold the child in half to get them in past the belts and over the seat. Not so much of an issue when they go into a front facing but the amount of times I've wanted to drop kick the rear facing seat into the skip...I've lost count.
I've got an Elgrand, (ooh, an E50 might tick your boxes?) and the wife has a Subaru Legacy. It's much easier to put the kids in in my car, especially when it's raining as you can just get in too.

Cool, really cool. But, do they need welding for annual service? Erm, no.

Not considered anything lifted as yet, but I am 6'6. So it's not a huge issue. Mrs has an FN2 type R. That's a pain in the .

Best part of £4k for a 520? Good god. I'd want it to be the best on earth.
