Although they weren't as bad as the Invacars, the 'Popemobile' style 'invalid' cars were still stigmatising. Rod Brotherwood is credited with having adapted a car to be the first WAV, i.e. looking entirely standard from the outside but being cleverly adapted to allow wheelchair access. Their first attempt was the Nissan Prairie M10: Shown here with the first owner of a Brotherwood WAV, John Lambert.

The - Compare a cheap car to expensive exotic ones - advertising tactic seems to be a common one. This was Citroen's version.

The Toyota 2000 GT convertible as used in the film You Only Live Twice was a one-off as all the other GTs Toyota produced were coupes. Another superb one-off from a major manufacturer? Jaguar's epic XJ13, which had a magnesium wheel disintegrate at high speed during testing, practically destroying the car. It has now been comprehensively restored by Jaguar Heritage.

The K Series platform also gave us the Plymouth Reliant, as featured in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Driven by Principal Ed Rooney):

Giving us an obvious link to the 1961 Ferrari 250GT California, as the movie describes it, although a more accurate description would be "tubeframe job wearing a fiberglass shell with a Ford small-block V8 under the hood." That’s why when one of the movie cars came up for auction in 2018 it was listed as a 1985 Modena GT Spyder California.

And the Cortina had those cool taillights which found their way to the 1963 Ford Lola GT (which I never knew existed and now have to buy a lottery ticket for)

This had a Kamm Tail, also known as a Kammback - see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KammbackAnother car with a Kamm Tail is the wonderfully wedge-tastic Maserati Khamsin.

This is a new one for me. I never heard of the Kammback — also known as "Kamm tail" or "K-tail" — it's just an automotive styling feature. Thanks. The Kammback is easy to see here on this beautiful and also on it's possibly even more rare little brother the Citroën GS Birotor A two rotor GS was launched in 1973. Dubbed the Citroën GS Birotor (also called Citroën GZ), it featured a much more powerful 79 kW (106 hp) Wankel birotor produced by the joint NSU-Citroën Comotor project. This style of motor is noted for its smooth power delivery which complemented the luxurious ride quality of the hydropneumatic suspension. Even better, the engine was small relative to its power, an advantage for Tax horsepower calculations, which drive automobile design in France The Birotor cost as much as the larger Citroën DS, and 70% more than the standard GS. The fuel economy was worse than the largest DS - the DS23EFI. Since it was not economical for its size, and was launched in October 1973, the exact start of the 1973 oil crisis, the Birotor version achieved poor sales and was quickly pulled from the market, after 847 units were sold

A friend of mine had one (going back to the Masser) - which means I've ridden in one He sold it a few years ago and bought this. Innocenti C (extra points for knowing - without looking - what the engine and drive train are from. But to get back on track, he also got a Lancia Fulvia - which has a Kammback

Well, to quote wikipedia, "Fulvia was an aristocratic Roman woman who lived during the Late Roman Republic. She gained access to power through her marriage to three of the most promising men of her generation, Publius Clodius Pulcher, Gaius Scribonius Curio, and Mark Antony. All three husbands were politically active populares, tribunes, and supporters of Julius Caesar. Though she is more famous for her involvement in Antony's career, many scholars believe that she was politically active with all of her husbands." So a Roman link then Opel Senator.

Following the tenuous links, I give you Giuseppe Tartini who, as you'll all know, is (was?) a dead Italian violinist. Nope, not COVID, this was way back in 1770. So what do we get when we put and Italian with the initials GT and Opel together? Why of course... Even better, it's got a Kamm tail! Lovely looking motors.
