Cortina based Jowett javelin Rolling Shell £2,000 Essex

1949/50 Jowett Javelin body on a 1964 MK1 Ford Cortina chassis, this is a rolling chassis, it comes with 4 doors which will need work, a bonnet, 2 bench seats 1 front, 1 rear from the Javelin originally.

at the moment it is fitted with a Zetec and rwd gearbox, but this is not included in the sale, nor is the prop, but at least you know this will fit or any other rwd engine for that reason.

this is a basic rolling shell, not a lot more comes with it, but all the hard work is done! the axle is still there and the whole thing is rolling on 15 inch banded Steels!

there are 3 door handles, a rear one is missing, there is also a remote servo fitted, plus the boot lid has an electronic release set up. all glass is present plus a couple of spares. very rare especially with this set up! Also the no. plate has been frenched, viewing recommended, more photo's to follow early on in the coming week.

I'm afraid not - I already have a handful of projects waiting for my attention plus a overflowing workshop diary of clients work that runs into next year - if you want to add to it that whilst I like my Jowett's this just does not float my boat.

Having seen Black Pops trials to go for IVA this project seems to be a world of pain

I spoke with a good friend who is an mot tester and asked what he is doing at present with all this chatter regarding 9 points, the end of the world and if a Citroën cactus will really be a classic car in the future curse word......

he has just mot'd a triumph spitfire, Escort front end with a zetec etc etc... the chassis is triumph, the tags relating to the logbook and chassis are correct, and there were no problems, I asked him about the Cortina Jowett, he enquired, and came back with the same answer, the chassis has the correct tags etc, so as long as there is an engine and the 'usual's so that it can be tested as a running/driving vehicle..... it will be.
And until anything else changes, he will continue to do the same, he is simply going by what he has been advised to do, (and yes, he is a strict mot tester).

now don't go asking me about this that and the other, I don't know, I can only spell out what he has done under the guidance of the big chiefs of the dvla.

you can physically mot it, doesnt mean the registration is correct though , if the registrations not correct then nor is the mot

Will it not bear the registration number of the Cortina if it is relying on the Cortina's tag for identification?

The cortina didn't have a separate chassis, the unmodified cortina monocoque carries the registration.

So unless there is the complete cortina shell hidden under that Jowett, rather than just the floorpan, then it's not a cortina, nor a Jowett...

well, we will have to see, i have asked him to confirm it again with the Dvla rather than anyone end up with a load of hassle, cheers anyway, watch this space.

Had a quick look at the big manual not the testing guide and nothing really relevant jumps out at me . As long as the vin for the Jowett is there and the car is not held together with tex screws there isn’t really any justification to refuse to test it however personally it’s one I would decline rather than get into it with Dvsa

Surely you cannot use both the VIN numbers i.e. the Jowett has stated above & the Cortina - The Jowett vin ID is a brass plate on the bulkhead but is also stamped to the left hand side of the front upper rail that goes between both of the inner wings & forward of the water pump pully, whilst the Cortina should have a vin plate fastened to the front slam panel but the vin is also stamped on the inner wing forward of / adjacent to the strut mounting - legally it can only carry one ID / chassis number - but I have to say if I was an MOT tester and a vehicle appeared registered has one model and turns up looking like something completely different - you would have to question the validity of what you are testing in the first place - I appreciate they will be exceptions to this such has a bona fide kit car that is based upon the mechanical components of a donor vehicle.

MOT is irrelevant , the car is not a Cortina , nor is it a Jowett it will be radically altered , so its no different to Q53 POP

So therefore would need to be subjected to IVA before it could be put to the road - and we all know what a mountain of work that involves

The Jowett was a separate chassis, so I think you need to forget the cortina bottom half and this needs to be sold as an awesome body that could be dropped onto a Scimitar/fx4/etc chassis (without checking wheelbase) which wouldn’t need IVA (once the floorpan of the Jowett was repaired and strengthened adequately)?
