Hi
I have in my head an idea of a “hot rod” Range Rover classic.
It would be rear wheel drive, 4 door lowered,
I have little experience but have put together a parts list
Jaguar xj6 wishbone front end & steering rack & brakes,width looks very similar
Corvette ls1 v8 400hp😀
Nissan 350z manual gearbox adaptors available
Rear axle ?. Jag?
Prop, exhaust, engine mounts will need to be manufactured
Radiator?
Or a complete v8 donor car?.( with manual box)
Curse this midlife crisis😡

Look for an entire seperate chassis that the Range Rover body can be dropped over, then Axles, steering brakes etc are all sorted.
Also you can set the body at a good height on the donor chassis.

Disagree - you can get a Rangie low without all that. Stock late air suspension can get one down quite a bit and still be comfortable, but the thing that can make a massive difference is coming down a few profile sizes from the stock 205R16 - and it looks a lot better than you would ever imagine, like a purposeful early seventies estate that never existed.

Stock late air suspension can get one down quite a bit and still be comfortable, but the thing that can make a massive difference is coming down a few profile sizes from the stock 205R16 - and it looks a lot better than you would ever imagine, like a purposeful early seventies estate that never existed. But the OP wants to dispense with the Solihull ironmongery ........ I agree though, keep the suspension and steering etc and just fit a huge engine..... or just buy an OverFinch and slam it .....

As a RRC owner for many many years and just cut all the rust (wasn't much left) from my softdash,now all rebuilt, I would say go with air suspension but uprate the antiroll bars to something the size of the P38 ones.
I also have a Sheer Rover that is fitted with standard springs but also coilovers with adjustable gas dampers, not driven it yet due to a complete rust eradication and then a welderthon to replace everything!!, but I'm sure it will do the twisty bits nicely.
Engine, Yes the 4.6 did suffer from liner problems, but if you get a later cross bolted one you should be fine, I have a 300bhp one in my P38..cost a bit to get there but its light weight and bits easy to get, saying that rather than the ls3, try the ls from a 3rd gen Camaro, very cheap and performance bits easy to get from the states, or a lexus 1uz, cheap, strong, reliable...

I'd be tempted to keep the rangie suspension but modify it to your needs And then just drop in a big block with a T56 gearbox RWD
A lot of work involved in getting it really low but it should look good done A bit like this

I would love this image to be slammed if possible?, it’s the look I am after, steel wheels & patina😎 no electric toys, no air con no abs manual gearbox & 400hp👍 Thanks for your views Standard suspension is not an option, I have had a Range Rover classic on air suspension, on its lowest setting, on the bump stops it is a very harsh ride & still too high any lower & the axle will e too close to the engine I am drawn towards a jaguar x300 xj6 front end complete with brakes, steering rack, etc, for clearance & possibly jag rear? There’s a jag breaker near me who will let me check out the parts required

How much custom fabrication are you willing to do and are you planning on chopping the chassis to fit stuff or not (not wanting to get into the BIVA discussion now)? I think it'd be cool if you could modify the Jaguar running gear to fit the Range Rover chassis with as little mods as possible, maybe with the front wishbones mounted above and below the main chassis rail? Rear could be tricky unless you can run the driveshafts at a slight angle too?
What about a small body drop so you don't have to hack the chassis about if you can't mount the suspension to get it low enough?

I'd have said it had a bit more of a 60's Mustang look about it.
It's interesting, but not a Range Rover I'd drive.

If you are going 2wd At the front you could keep more or less the standard set up but fit a dropped axle. (could just be a matter of fabricating a new centre section for the standard axle,
For the rear a Jag and low ride height set up will probably mean cutting the chassis rails, some sort of trailing arm set up (Scorpio or older BMW) could be accommodated with out too much cutting around, modify the cross tube to mount on the standard RR position and add a new X member to carry the diff.

Scimitar has a chassis with a wheelbase dimension close to the Range-Rover, so that might be an idea.
As does a TVR Cerbera, but a rolling chassis of them might be a bit expensive.

I had one mounted to an audi 1.8t engine mounted in a spaceframed landrover but the ratios weren't the best and one thing and another. I chopped the bell housing to bits to weld a new section in for the starter. When we replaced it for a sequential last yeat I stuck the Nissan box on ebay expecting a couple of quid as it couldn't go back in a Nissan now id messed about with it. I got £500 for the big paper weight. and the lad was over the mood he got it so cheap. There are plenty of other cheaper rwd boxes available. Plus the nisan box is 500meters long.
