I've been inspired to find out the history of my car! The original plates say Southern Cross Garages MKT Deeping & Potters Bar. Anyone heard of these or have any photos etc? I cant find anything online about them online!!! The Car has no Ford Dealer sticker in the back window so, I imagine it must be a smaller franchise with just the two locations on the plate? Not sure if this garage was a Ford garage as the plates have the Ford logos either side of the Garage name. The last 3 letter on the number plate are MFL which i hear is local to Peterborough (i bought it from this area too)  Never really thought much of the Cars history for some reason. I hear I'm too late to ask the DVLA with the new data protection? Chris |

Just had another dig around online using Companies House.gov.uk and still cant find any companies that went under in either town. My only ideas is to go there one day when I'm passing and start asking other garages at this point . |

Cheers for that!!! don't know how i missed it! did a bit more digging and found its now "Old Southern Cross Garage Barnet By Pass, Brookmans Park, Hatfield AL9 7TS" which is actully called P T Motors Ltd. I'll have to pop up one day or give them a call and see if they know anymore. I guess my car was from the other brand which is not owned by P T Motors post Southern Cross Garage... maybe thats flats or something now.  |

If you look at Google maps and pop in Terry Wright cycles in market deeping that's the site of the old garage you mention
Terry Wright's closed approx five months ago and replaced with a mini co op

I use to spend a lot of time around potters bar (early 90s on) There is a ford dealer on mutton lane that has been there for as long as I can remember It's been under many names but it's always been a ford dealer  |

Hi mate thats great news! I think i found it searching the old Terry Wright address... definitely looks like it was a garage. Shame there is no information on the old site (just had another search for Southern Cross Garages with that address). How did you find out in the end? Did anyone tell you anything interesting? Cheers again for asking and finding this out!  It seems a little further down than on the map  Sadly i think i'll have to make the trip and get a pic of it on the car park  |

Or would it likely to be second hand from here... i have no info that it was sold new or secondhand with these plates on but, my guess is from the MFL Reg it came from the area anyway.

I seem to recollect that this garage was originally part of the Peterborough Motors Group that was a main Ford dealer and itself became part of the TC Harrison Group. The garage was likely sold off during reorganisation.

This is so great guys! happy to know anything good or bad about this place. Will try and look into the TC Harrison Group and see if they have any info on it. Cant find anything online but i think the garage closed in 1993 ish from the .gov website so, would be all pre internet anyway.
Not found anything on Flickr yet but i bet someone has a picture from back when.
Can you still send off to the DVLA via post for car info?
I tried to contact them buy email and they said i couldn't receive anything to do with previous owners etc with data protections (definitely chose the wrong words in that email).

I live in Deeping st James next to Market Deeping. Over the years a couple of ford garages have been there. There was one in the centre of the town which is now an American diner called iron horse and another where there is a new coop
