Hi guys, I got this in a job lot of parts and would appreciate if anyone knows what it is/what vehicle it is from? I have tried looking online but had no luck It is very well made and has markings around the edge (timing marks?) and has been balanced - It looks like some sort of flywheel? Any help with Identifying it would be much apreciated Thanks

since it has measurements, it looks like the bottom plate of a rotating machine vice.
just a guess though

Hi, I agree, since it's graduated in degrees I would say it's part of a machine tool rather that auto.

Bit odd for it to be balanced and have an apparently worn clutch surface though if it's a machine tool.

Hi, I don't think that's a 'worn clutch surface' I think its been scraped so it's a precision face. I first thought it might be off a lathe with a milling attachment and is used for indexing. The balancing indicates it's for high speed use, so my second thought was maybe a balancing machine and the graduations were for identifying where the weights should be placed to balance the item.

I still think its automotive. Degreed flywheels aren't uncommon in performance applications, that looks like a burnt clutch surface to me, the witness mark on the back with a notch out suggests a crankshaft, and the extra holes on the front suggest mounting for something like a lenco style clutch pack.
Maybe the OP can provide some more context as to what it came with or what it many be intended for. How big is it, is it graduated 360deg, and how is the zero mark indexed in relation to the witness marks on the back?

Those are not scrape marks. They are burn marks from a clutch. Would agree that it’s an aftermarket flywheel.

Thanks for the replies guys,
It is 9 inches in diameter - i think it is definitely automotive
It came in a job lot of parts from a guy that used to own and race old posches, fords, minis and more, so would make sense as a performance flywheel
I will have a closer look at the markings tomorrow as to what they go up to
