I need to fit a new gearbox mount to my cube (not retro, sorry), and seeing as they seem to be prone to wear I thought id try and do something to improve it. It would appear that powerflex do a kit for it, inserts that fit above and below the mount to fill the voids, available in yellow (road spec) and black (race spec) Question is, what would you go for, yellow or black? Ive read that black ones are generaly too harsh for road use but that only relates to suspension bushes. Its only a small gearbox mount so id imagine it shouldnt make too much difference, or am i risking extra noise through the car from the engine? I'm tempted to go black but something is telling me to play safe and go yellow. I'm doing it in the hope that the gearbox mount lasts a bit longer, so I'm thinking yellow would be sufficient, but black would be better? Any advice?

If SuperPro do one I'd go with that TBH. IME and others they are more durable than PowerFlex and tend to avoid the noise issues.
If PowerFlex is your only choice then I'd go for the yellows. The Blacks aren't far off solid! In M3 applications the diff bushes actually transmit noise into the cabin.
Have you tried a genuine Nissan mount? That would be my choice; alot of aftermarket rubber is garbage and even branded stuff is trickier to trust now.

Thanks alot that helps, ill have a look at superpro. I'm suprised anyone does anything for the cube so finding this was a result. The only other time ive uprated bushes was when i had my mini, the best improvement (and worst for noise) was the solid nylon top mounts. I guess as I'm only trying to stop the bush flexing as much, rather than planing on making it a track weapon, anything to fill the voids will help.

Ok, round 2. I havnt got the mount sorted yet, stuff got in the way, then i found out how much it was going to be from my main dealer, ÂŁ110+vat!). Its only a relativly small mount and i just cant justify the price in my head, so I'm going to get a pattern part and hope the polybush kit reinforces it.
My only experience of pattern parts is engine mounts and wotnot for Austin Maxis, and these were generaly rubbish, so the only information i have in my head is they are probably not going to last very long, even though i expect pattern parts to be much better than they used to be. Ive looked into whats available and ive found that its a bit of a mindfield now with quite afew manufacturers out there and I have absolutly no idea whos better than who. The list I have is.
New Birth AGR, Blueprint, Febi Bilstien, GSF Standard, First Line, SWAG Germany, Febest,
Anyone got any ideas? Are there any who are generally a bit better than others? Are there any I should avoid? I used to be able to go to my dads shed and compare i don't know how many engine mounts for a maxi and pick out the best one, now its all down to a matter of chance so if anyone could help out id really appreciate it

I run an old diesel Clio, the rear mount doesn't last long, aftermarket ones last about a month. Filled the spaces in the original one with polyurethane adhesive and still using it after 200k. It's about to go on my 'new' clio daily but I'll drill a couple of holes in it this time to give it some sort of compliance.

Yeah, the aftermarket uprated ones for those are almost solid - I've just made some better ones that are in testing atm.
I've given up on most aftermarket mounts, I just make my own these days, unless it's for a shitter.

Id be interested in seeing those when they are done. Ive seen aftermarket uprated ones that look to be pretty much solid, I'm hoping the powerflex insert is firmer but not solid. I think the best idea now would be to go for an aftermarket one with the powerflex insert and see how long that lasts until your new ones are sorted.

I'm guessing the mount fits other cars as well. Just had a quick nose around and the internet suggests Renault and Dacia use the same mount. Don't know if they are the same but is possible the same part from another brand could be cheaper. Could be worth a look.

Thanks for having a snoot around, they do fit other cars, afew renaults which has taken me to look at clio stuff. There are uprated ones, and its probably the reason the powerflex ones exist, tbh i cant imagine anyone making one for the cube alone lol. If i can positivly identify it ill see what renault charge for the same mount. Other than that its still an unknown as to the quality of the aftermarket (standard) ones. Id assume they are all rubbish, but there must be some better than others.
Back when my dad was into Maxis i remember him looking underneath a car in a breakers yard and realising the car he was under used what looked to be exactly the same mount as a Maxi. Maxi ones were scarce so he ordered a load of these other ones. Same outer metal, same inner metal, but it was offset in the rubber instead of being central on a maxi, but you couldnt tell when it was on the car. They didnt fit, so as a result when it comes to this sort of cross-fitting, i like to make doubly sure I'm getting the right part, And uprate things a little where i can.

Isn't the Cube a K12 Micra underneath? Might be something there, know that the Micra and Clio share stuff. Of the manufacturers above, Blueprint and Febi Bilstein are the same, all Bilstein but cheaper. SWAG is the only one I’d go for on a nice car. Just put cheap aftermarket junk in my MK5 Golf at 1/10th of the cost of OEM, but at 330k the car isn’t fresh mechanically anyway

There must be something, loads of cars use that style of bell mount, a lot of peugeots, renaults, citroens, fords, etc in various sizes - in fact it's common in machinery too so try places that do anti vibration mounts for machinery/boats, etc.

Thanks for all the advice guys, within 2 days ive received more advice than i was expecting. Ive decided to go with the Swag one along with the powerflex insert, once i get the original one off the car ill be able to physicly compare it to other possible alternatives.

Probably a bit too large/stiff for yours, these are 110mm bolt centres and ~75mm main body diameter:

Yeah they might be a bit big, but they look to be the right sort of idea. Ill have a measure up with mine when i get it. Speaking of which, things have got a bit more interesting/confusing/whatever. The seller messaged me to see if id like him to make sure I was ordering the right one (as per the top picture in this thread). I said i was pretty sure but i gave him the cars details anyway. He got back to me and said it was the wrong one, but he had the right one and would send it. He sent a picture of it Now, if i hadnt have been told they were different i would have assumed they were the same. The only difference i can see is the inner part of the rubber part of the bush. If this is the right part, and still a Swag bush, all well and good, but ive got to take the car apart to find out, also, now I'm starting to wonder if the powerflex insert will fit. See, what i was saying about those maxi bushes all those years ago, its like history repeating. Have a song. And heres what the powerflex insert looks like. TBH it looks like its more likley to fit the mount he recomended.

Right, just to chuck another name into the game, this alternative mount is made by Yamato. I know nothing of them but most of their stuff is quite highly priced, so I'm assuming its worth a gamble.
