I took my little ladies to the Imperial War Museum today, and as we wandered around the exhibits we came across this little beauty... It's probably past it's best, it's been in a bomb blast, which by the looks of thigs has done it no good at all! Anyway, what my little girls wondered was what kind of car was it? I did my best to identify it for them, and the best I could come up with was that it was probably a late nineties Chevrolet Impala, or Caprice. Like this one, but of course I have no idea really. But waht I can tell you is that it was left hand drive, a four door saloon, and it was rear wheel drive. My feeling is that if it is not an Impala or Caprice, its a GM product of some description. Anyone got any ideas?

Perhaps it was a result of anxiety.

It's got macpherson struts so won't be a full sized yank.
Any clues on which country it was from?

Nope,a lot of stuff on Jeremy Deller and the exhibits, but nowhere a mention of what brand and-or type it actually is. Interesting reading though...

It's not a Chevrolet caprice or a ford Taurus of similar vintage. The pictures I can find on interwebs show a different profile for the door pull openings than either of them.
Sorry its the best I could go on...

It might have helped if you had taken a photo of it showing the left door, as that seems to be intact.

I appreciate it was involved in a bomb blast, but where have the engine block and complete rotating hub parts gone

I appreciate it was involved in a bomb blast, but where have the engine block and complete rotating hub parts gone The blast would have removed the wheels, especially the front left hand side as you look at it. Judging by the way the pressure wave has deformed the front and then passed over the rest. The motor would have just fell out as they tried to move the car.

Well it is RWD and with McPherson front suspension.
The door handle cut out suggests that it is a flush mounted handle which suggests a pre 2000 design date.
And I don't think it is a BMW or Mercedes.
Toyota Cresta? Not a clue if these were sold over there.

Just googled cars in Iraq, and there seems to be loads of Hyundai’s The big sedan is an Elantra, and the earlier ones have different shaped door handles, but the 2006 model could be the same... It has to be pre 2007, as that was the date of the blast.... But there’s not much to work with

The work - called Baghdad, 5 March 2007 - was damaged in the bombing of the historic Al-Mutanabbi street book market in the Iraqi capital. The engine was removed before being exported.
The Hyundai is FWD.

I should've taken more pictures of it showing details. The reason I thought it was a Caprice or Impala was due to the size of the thing, but also the shape of the side window apertures. However the doors go into the roof on those, whereas the doors go into the side of the body like an '80s car. Also, as has been pointed out the door handle holes are the wrong shape.
