Rear number plate positioning - legals

Hi all

Hoping someone can help, I can't see anything in the number plate regulations but are there any laws regarding location of rear number plate?

I'd like to fit mine on the cab of my truck rather than the tailgate panel - is this legal?

I seem to recall hearsay that front number plates have to be in front of the front axle - does this mean rear number plate has to be behind rear axle or are neither of those legal fact any way.

Seems to be lots about the plate presentation and size itself but nothing about physical location in relation to the vehicle.

If anyone questions the reason it's just for a cleaner look, it will still be clearly visible, legal sizing and illuminated etc.

I would imagine that the back of the cab wouldn't be classed as to the rear of the vehicle

MOT wise I cant honestly remember, the guide is online tho

That’s what I wasn’t sure on - is it just facing the back or as far back as possible, if it would be contentious I’ll just stick to the tailgate panel to avoid unnecessary stops even though I only cover 2,000 miles a year.

I tried searching for regs but they were all about the plate itself rather than location on vehicle.

The regs state the rear of the vehicle and must be lit up at night obviously.
