Stag with Weber, help required

Hi. I have a Stag with a 38 DGMS Weber fitted. Fitted it new around 8 1/2 years ago. Just recently had some body work done to the car and the shop ran it dry of fuel. New fuel in and ran ok for a short while then started play ping up and cutting out. Found debris in the inline filter and in the carb. I’ve fitted a new filter and cleaned the carb and also measured the float level.

The car will start and tick over on choke and without choke when warm, when I try to drive with part throttle it’s like kangaroo juice has been poured in. Floor it and it’s ok it just doesn’t like part throttle, any of you intelligent people have an idea?

i have ordered an overhaul kit for the carb so will try that too.

Used to have a Granada with a 38 Weber that would do the same every so often. Every time it happened I just put my hand over the top of the carb to block it,and rev it at the same time. Then as it was just dying remove my hand quick. This used to flush any c**p out of it and it would run fine again.

Webers have a series of small holes in the throat just above the throttle plate which are fed off the idle circuit and are there to add fuel at part throttle and provide progression from the idle to main jet, they easily block and cause the symptoms you describe, as above, revving the engine and holding a balled rag over the inlet can creete enough vacuum to suck the dirt out, otherwise it will need blowing out with an airline.

Theres load you can do to the Stag to make it your own or just slightly better than it was when it came out of the factory. Mine just the other extreme, forum.retro-rides.org/thread/163505/1972-triumph-1uzfe-turbo-conversion
